We are home right now cooling down but wow what a day so far. The parade started at 10 this morning, but we had to arrive at 9. Standing in the hot sun the whole time. The parade was over a mile long, however Dustin's ROTC group and the younger kids band was closer to the front. Thank goodness or it would have lasted much longer. I didn't have to carry the banner the pain in my chest wouldn't go away so I found a mom and a sister of one of the band members to cover for Jay and I. We still walked with the kids tossing candy to the crowd and making sure the band stayed in step. After we finished with the parade we drove to the carnival fairgrounds, not to far away from my house so the kids could perform again on stage. The temp had to be 102 at the time. As the band started playing the boy that stands nexts to Destiny just walked off the stage due to the heat. Corky (band teacher) stood next to Destiny and kept asking her if she was ok. Her face turned deep red and she started shaking. SHe kept playing. They did a couple songs after that and more of the kids started looking like Destiny and the ones who weren't had sweat just pouring off of them. Destiny just sat down looking dazed and Corky turned to the crowd an called it quits. Way to much sun for these kids. It took me almost 15 minutes to get Destiny's color back to normal (it doesn't help with her having to wear that plastic brace for her back). I brought them home and had them cool off in the pool. Now we are to head back to Pow Wow Days and finish this day off. I can't wait for it to be over.

Here is the email Corky sent to us parents .......

Parents;

Great parade today, the kids did wonderful and I think had fun.
Spectator response was outstanding.

The afternoon performance was a bit much for everyone, including
myself. This is the second year I've lost kids due to the heat. Last
year it was ChristiAnne and Sierra . I don't plan to
participate in that portion of the program next year. I hope Alex,
Destiny, Curtis and Kelly are OK. The chilled bottled water was a
life saver.

If anyone has pictures, please send them to me.

See you Monday.

Corky

p.s. Cindy if you can have one of the kids bring the participation ribbons to school on Monday, I will pass them out to the band.

I have to admitt this was the hottest Pow Wow Days I can remember. The kids are so tired and poor Dustin has his senior ball tonight and really doesn't want to go (for one reason or another). I just want to hit the pool and have a cold beer. Wow what a day.

Walmarts carries a portable "mister" that is a God Send in this South Louisiana heat. Do you have them there ? I can see how much they are here ...

Somebody else suggested something like that too. I need to find something because she "cooks" in her brace and so far since the hotter weather has hit she has been having a more difficult time trying to cool down.
