Well as you may or may not know, as of today things have changed dramatically after discussion with Nexon America. No we're not making this up. Yes this is true. No it wasn't through an unreliable medium like through e-mail or an instant messenger program. The contact was through the phone line with actual person to person communication.

Nautilus Port began as the first successful OdinMS fork with Odin Snow, which was later renamed to Lily. However, due to a busy staff team, development began to slow and soon Lily was overtaken by OdinTeh. Another transfer in the leading OdinMS fork occurred when OdinTeh was discontinued and respawned again as FlowsionMS, but soon that was to crash as well.

Prior to the temporary shut down of Nautilus Port as FlowsionMS rose in popularity, Acrylic and I were aiming for Nautilus Port 2.0 to be more of a MapleStory fan discussion site as well as an advertising and trading port for private servers. Think of it as a BasilMarket auctioning site except for private servers with trades and feedback being instant through a web-based environment. (You can see our planned layout by clicking here.) But with the downfall of FlowsionMS we decided to take a stand and keep the MapleStory private server development community alive which was the our original goal with the first opening of Nautilus Port and Odin Snow. To do this, these forums you are on right now were quickly installed skipping our original plan to open the site 100% complete with our planned theme and forum setup as we did not want to have any delay due to the potential risk of collapsing the MapleStory private server development community. Learning from our establishment mistakes with the first opening of Nautilus Port, we hastily setup the categories, forums, and SVN so our new OdinMS fork, ProjectMS, could be immediately started and used by any interested in MapleStory private servers. We even gathered an official team of developers since we lacked that last time and revisions began to come in quickly.

Seeing a potential threat on the horizon, Nexon America attempted to shut down our SVN at Assembla by requesting an Assembla staff member, Andy, to take it down. Andy, who obtained Nexon America's contact information, gave this information to Acrylic. After an e-mail to Nexon America and a discussion among the Nautilus Port Administrators, Sparks called an official Nexon America staff member named Lloyd Korn. (We will not be releasing any specific contact information for security reasons.) After a bit of discussion we've come to an understanding with Nexon America and we have agreed to discontinue ProjectMS and any other MapleStory private server related developments and discussions. No official cease and desist letters or lawsuits were involved, this is our choice. Nautilus Port will not be shutting down, will no longer tolerate any MapleStory private server related discussions, and from now on is a MapleStory fan site! Also note this declares the discontinuation of ProjectMS meaning we will no longer release official revisions or be responsible for any continuing development, distribution, or forks.

If you have seen a YouTube video revealing the conversation between Lloyd Korn and Sparks, please avoid it and flag it to be taken off. It was originally only to be heard by Nautilus Port staff members for a debate whether to continue or not continue MapleStory private server development and violates Lloyd Korn's privacy. Due to insufficient and incomplete forum permission parameters, ProjectMS developers gained access to it and leaked it. Whoever uploaded the video on YouTube we request it to be taken off. If any official Nexon America staff member is reading this, please accept our deepest apologies.

More coming soon in such as relations with Nexon America and direct plans for Nautilus Port's future... including a new project you don't want to miss! Check back on this post later!

How sad :( Private servers are coming to an end. =/

Man, another one?

Nexon needs to get over the fact that GMS sucks and that people won't go to GMS after they take out their private server. People will just hop over to another one.

Nexon had to have offered something to make them cave in so easily. Or maybe a partnership? who knows.... Hopefully some developers keep going on with their work, and maybe if Nautilus Port is working with Nexon, GMS might be changed in order to make more people like the game.

Oh wow, that sucks =s
And if you think about it though, I don't think Nexon will stop anytime soon. As you can see, the number of private servers is increasing; the fact that more and more people are leaving an joining private servers isn't a benefit for them. Profit. That's what they want.

Just now I just listened to the phone call.

Nexon is just... uh... if they want to have people back at their own server, they should do something more... I agree with Tati, all they do is for profit, if they got no profit they fall... but still Nexon is just sad...

They're in the hands of a greedy person. In the beta of gMS, they had no cash shop and was forced to make the game completely free due to the nature of the game in other countries and languages. Now they have probably 1000-2000 cash items and theyre crying about how private servers are taking their business. The way i see it is they want to meet a quota. A quota that was set by their high and mighty selves before private servers came out. Now that private servers have popped up and are now flourishing, they lose maybe 5% of the profit. I say 5 percent because the people using cash shop corrently will not quit, due to the money they invested. They see the profits diminishing slightly, and they find someone to blame. Because that's corporate America at this time and age. Nexon America isn't greedy by choice, but the pure nature of the society we live in today and the way the internet has developed to this day.

I wonder, did other companies like Gravity have so much of a freaking problem with private servers? I know they shut some down, but it seems like Nexon has taken their beef farther than other companies have ever gone before...

I don't think Blizzard is going crazy to take down WoW private servers, and you actually have to pay a MONTHLY fee to pay WoW. Talk about the money they'd be losing.
