Quote: I have recently had cause to consider the case of intersexual individuals, and I need help! What is the biblical response to someone who, from birth, cannot clearly be called male or female? Should the parents choose the sex of their child and have "corrective" surgery performed? What if, as the child grows up, he feels he has been mislabled? In the case I am familiar with, the person was raised as a boy but feels she is actually female and has been ostracized as a "freak" by society in general. My heart breaks for her. Certainly, each person is "fearfully and wonderfully made" and loved by his Creator. And certainly, each person should be respected and loved "as is." But--beyond this--what is our response, as believers, to the unique needs of intersexuals? clklock wrote: I received this reply from a nurse which has had experience with this type of disorder. Quote: In my nursing experience I had one occasion to see this happen in a birth. The outward parts of the baby did not make it clear if the child was male or female. They did X-rays to see what the internal organs were...was there a uterus, fallopian tubes, etc. to help clarify. They would then do the necessary surgery to match the inside and the outside. Hope this helps... Jan Long DONALD wrote: Excuse me for not being a psycho babbler, but this seems like a fairly rare situation. Was this person raised as a boy because to any observer he IS a boy--boy parts etc.? Does this person just "feel" he is a she? I'm not sure of the biblical response, but my bible says He created them male and female. I don't mean to be harsh or mean, and I do have compassion for this person since from what you have related he is a very confused individual. To me, the biblical response is God doesn't make mistakes, and since the Word says he created them male and female, not she-male, or some other blend, I would think he is a he and needs to deal with it, no matter what his "feelings" are. And as for a sex change, THAT would make some one a "freak" of nature, in my humble opinion. I will pray for him. P.S. For those that found my psycho babbler comment rather "snarky," here is a link to my blog that deals with the subject in some detail: http://seeyouontop.blogspot.com/sear...2FPSYCHOHERESY lightninboy wrote: clklock was referring to an infant which was hard to tell what sex it was, not a grown man who wanted a sex change, wasn't he? I am not familiar with people who are not clearly male or female, but it seems like I did read in the Encyclopedia Britannica or somewhere that there are such people. DONALD wrote: I'm not sure if he was referring to an infant, but he said the person "felt" he was a girl. So I figured he was older than an infant. Besides, i've seen one heck of a lot of brand new babies, and I've never had difficultly telling whether it is a boy or a girl. I'm sure there are exceptions, when something might be physically wrong and you can't tell, but this person was disturbed about their sexual status, so they had to be older. |
