You're merely proving my point. It is ironic that so many times war is the necessary means to bring peace. The thought of a counter club crossed my mind, but first, how in the world would I market that? and second, my life goal is not to "bash" homosexuals or "deny them their rights." That's what people would see it as. |

You can't tolerate intolerant views if you are seeking to promote tolerance. If that was your point, then we agree... If GSA is "declaring war" on intolerant people, then war may be the necessary means to bring peace... There's another argument to be made that the school is using 'government speech' and as such, it can decide whether it allows a club to form or not. Government speech does not need to be viewpoint-neutral. Take the DEA's position on marijuana, it would be impossible for the government to govern viewpoint-neutral..ly. Perhaps unfortunately, it is much easier to claim government speech in a nonpublic forum, like a school, than it is in a public forum, like a park. And yeah, it would be pretty difficult to form a counter club without looking like a.. jerk. But, perhaps fortunately, I believe the club may be detrimental to its purpose. On the Day of Silence thing, people bragged of making signs that said "Be Loud, Be Proud" and "Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve." etc. It may end up creating more discrimination and chances for people to be dumb. Best thing you could do is probably to ignore it.. don't join or put up signs or anything. If it bothers you that much, write a petition, talk to officials, take them to court. I guess it doesn't really matter seeing as how you graduated last night

Using drugs is a philosophical and "moral" problem.. I only bring it up to explain government speech though. |

Back to the misuse of the word tolerant: that's what bothers me about "tolerant" people. They never can be tolerant because they want to silence those they label "intolerant," which is basically everyone in disagreement. I don't even think tolerance is such a pressing virtue to pursue. And people are just dumb. (I was disgusted with some of the signs people put up too. And the nazi thing? I hear about it, didn't see anything, but what in the world was going on in their heads???) |
