It was actually rather amusing when you thought about it. Die never spent any time inside while working for the resistance. He was always out and about, sometimes they sent him on errands and never really cared. This was much more relaxing then the name entailed, resistance really didn't cause much upheaval as far as he was concerned.

He was drifting now. The badlands were nice. There were kids on the street, playing, even with the impending darkness they were so jubilant. It brought a smile to his lips, which were currently sealed around the ever present cigarette.

Mothers looked to him in fear, grown men didn't walk this street normally, either you were in the resistance...or part of the mercenaries...either brought dismay to any area they were in as far as the mothers were concerned. This would upset him, if the children felt the same way. They commonly came up to him asking question, and Die found himself leaving with one less possession then he came to the Badlands with.

However, once darkness descended, it was as if no one lived there. A ghost town. The scene made Die drag his feet as he continued to walk. He wasn't paying too much attention as he weaved through the streets and smokes, and before he had a chance to take notice, rain began to fall. He couldn't help but laugh, he honestly hated the rain.

There was no where to get out of it, not close by at least. Flipping up his hood and shoving his hands in his pocket Die ran. He eyed old houses, trying to find at least one with a cover porch, and only found after the steady rain turned into a downpour.

When he reached the sanctity of the porch, Die laughed again, he was drenched.

Ruki was lost. It sounded stupid and all considering he actually knew exactly where he was, but the thing that had him confused was the fact that none of it looked the same. It had been years since he had been back to the particular village. Years since he had walked the streets; they hadn’t changed. There were no signs of road works or council plans that had been put into place since his last visit. Nothing.

What was different was that there was almost nothing. Every second house was flattened, every stretch of road filled with potholes and crevices.

Nothing was different and yet everything had changed.

Ruki stook looking at a heap of wood and bricks that had once been his home. Not his childhood home; that was probably still there, large and imposing in a way that meant he’d needed a step ladder to reach the sink. But his home after that. A house full of busy people all struggling to get by as close to the city as possible. A human home with normal sized mugs and cups, plates and beds.

It had been nice and now it was nothing.

The pit of Ruki’s stomach twisted painfully as he looked at the mess. Anything of value had been stolen and pillaged leaving over the rotting husks of the foundations and the crumbling, chalky remains of bricks.

Ruki tried to clear the lump in the back of his throat and wiped furiously at his eyes. He wasn’t one to cry, but this was a humbling sight. Keeping his emotions in check, he hardly realised what he was projecting out until the rain hit.

“Fuck it,” he muttered as his clothes were quickly drenched. He glanced up at the unnaturally dark storm cloud that stretched across the wasteland town and cursed his inability to control himself better.

With his eyes turned up to the sky, he didn’t see the running, hooded man coming. Suddenly he was almost bowled straight over as some stupidly tall guy sprinted across the street to one of the still standing houses and hid from the rain.

Ruki half glared, half pouted at the idiot and felt the air around him start to chill in his annoyance.

Die didn't really realize he'd hit someone until he was lighting his cigarette and looking out into the road. He saw the shorter man and snickered. Yeah, he definitely hit him now that he thought about it.

Flipping his hood down Die shook his head, even with the cloth covering, his hair was still drenched. God he really hated rain. While walking toward the edge of the porch he rand his fingers through his hair to move the strands from plastering to his face.

Leaning against the banister he took a drag from his cigarette and sighed, hating how the rain would bring his smoke tumbling to the ground or cause it to scatter so soon. "Oye." He sighed to the other guy before he took another drag.

"You know it's raining...right?" He snickered, certainly not making fun of the man standing in the rain...but he wasn't even moving. "Sorry bout running into you...but you should probably get out of the rain." Die gave an almost warm smirk to the stranger, he was so convincingly nice.

Ruki turned his attention away from the man, a grumbled curse slipping across his lips. He concentrated on keeping himself level headed and not getting too mad. That would only lead to bad things. Ice and unnatural cold and god only knew what else.

“I know,” Ruki said to the other’s rather blindingly obvious statement. Of course it was bloody well raining; it was Ruki’s fault! Then again, human’s didn’t understand that sort of stuff. That was why he’d made up his mind to come here in the first place. Rumour spoke of a place where those with talents lived and worked, somewhat free from prosecution. While it sounded just a little too utopia to Ruki, he was at least willing to give it a go. Had to be better then being screamed at and run from every time his eyes changed colour or his giant strength actually kicked in.

Shrugging to the last part of the man’s statement, Ruki finally flicked his unnaturally blue eyes over to the guy again. “What’s the point?” he asked. He wasn’t trying to sound glum, or defeated or even self loathing; it was an honest questions. “It doesn’t matter how long you stay wet, it is the way you dry out that makes you sick.” He almost added in that he didn’t get sick, or feel the cold or even notice the water on his skin, but again, that would just lead to running and screaming and Ruki didn’t want to deal with that at the moment.

Die found the other man rather depressing in a way. That or he was just really rude and snippy. Of course, the short man was entitled, but Die didn’t feel it was deserved, he did apologize for stupidly running into him.

It was a good thing he could really care less.

“Whatever dude.” Die snickered while waving his hand in a dismissive manner. The man was a real killjoy. Turning his back, Die took a drag from his cigarette and began looking around for scrap pieces of wood. He needed a fire, but definitely didn’t want to burn the entire porch...then what would shield him from the rain.

He eventually pulled up a few half rotted boards and found some twigs and went to the middle of the wooden platform, only to see the man still standing in the rain, getting very drenched.

“Well...If you decide you want to dry and not get sick...I have a fire.” Well he didn’t yet, but it would really only take a second. Flicking his cigarette away, Die sighed at the drenched form he saw before turning around and sitting indian style. He was in the very center of the porch, piling the boards for a moment or two before he snapped his fingers and had a bit of a flame started, which soon turned into a small but suitable fire.

“Fuck, it’s spring...why is it cold?” he mumbled to himself, then again...he was always cold.

The idea of fire actually frightened Ruki. It was strange, but he always saw it as an enemy, even more so than large bodies of water. Water was something that was within his power, even if he normally did screw it up. Fire on the other hand, was a element that he had no control over at all.

His paranoia was heightened when he felt a strange vibrating sensation in the air. Head whipping up, he saw the stranger’s little bonfire burst into light easily. Ruki squinted his eyes and tried to get a better look at the man. There was no lighter, Ruki was sure of it. The prickle of his skin even hinted at magic. He blinked and tried to concentrate. The last thing he wanted to do was go getting himself worried and end up turning the whole place into an ice rink which sadly why a high possibility.

Ruki tried to appear casual as he wandered up the stairs towards the other. He eyed the man cautiously as well as the fire. It made him nervous though his curiosity pushed him forward and his feet seemed to have a mind of their own. A need to discover the unknown.

Not knowing what to say, Ruki merely stood awkwardly against the side of the house, under the shelter and near the fire but safely away from the taller man. “It is oddly cold, isn’t it,” he lied. Ruki didn’t feel the cold. Not at all. Then again, he didn’t really feel the heat either, not until it was it was near the point of burning.
