Did You guys know, that You don't even have to pay for MS Word? OpenOffice is a free version of Word, and it's exactly the same. And do You know who made OpenOffice? Microsoft did! Yep, that's right. They're not advertising about it, because they'd rather like You to buy the program, than getting it free.

The functions are all the same except that when You want to save a document, it saves it as a ODT. file, which only can be opened with OpenOffice. But! - You can just choose to save it as a Windows 97/200/XP document, then people with MS Word can open it too.

Here is the link: www.download.openoffice.org
(for some reason, the link doesn't work right now, deffinitly not on my computer, but just try later)

OBS! Don't get scared, and think it's a virus because the it isn't a .com site. They decided to make it "org." because that would get less noticed, a which means that less people will know about it, and more would buy MS Word. OpenOffice also includes all the other things like excel, powerpoint and all that, they're just called different things. Word = Writer | Powerpoint = Presentation... etc... You'll find out when You download it.

Enjoy!

OpenOffice was not made by Microsoft. It was developed by Sun Microsystems.

.Org pages are used for not-for-profit organizations. You'll find that the majority of open source programs are hosted on .org sites.

Also, this really belongs in The Blockhouse. (Moved.) But yeah, OpenOffice is great.

I read somewhere that people from Microsfot participated in making it. So, in some way, Microsoft made it, atleast helped.

In the future, whenever you're looking for free software, try searching for "open source [what you're looking for]"

So for example, if you wanted something similar to MS Word, you'd search for "open source word processor." OpenOffice will be the very first result on Google.

Yeah, well... Just doing it for the post count (kidding)

Nah, I'm doing it because I'm the kind of person, that likes to share my knowledge, and make people learn of my tips and all that. After all I'm born in June, so I'm a twin : ) (Born in the sign of the twin, I'm not a "twin twin", with a twin brother).
