Hello, if you are reading any good books, post their names and a short summary of the book, and tell us why you can/can't recommend it. I'll start...:P "The Spooks Battle" - danish title "Heksejægerens Kamp" Other books "The Spooks...." is a series of 5 books, 4 has been translated into danish so far, and "The Spooks Battle" is the fourth. Summary - not of the book, but of the characters and the story "The Spooks Battle" is about Thomas Ward who is The Spooks (John Gregory, a famous Spook)'s apprentice. Being a Spook means that you fight The Dark powers of the world, such as Scarebeasts (I don't know if they are called that in english, but that's the direct translation from danish - skræmmevæsen) and Witches. Spooks do have tools/weapons that helps them fighting The Dark, such as Woodstick (of a certain wood specie which I don't know what's called in english, salt, iron (small peices of iron which can inflict great harm to Scarebeasts and Witches) and silver chains, which they use to bind Witches e.g. to a hole in the ground, so they won't be able to go out and kill people anymore. That was my short summary, and I can definitely recommend this book, it's exciting and it has a nice plot. 8/10 |

I am reading Star Wars: Specter Of The Past, Timothy Zahn. It is in english, so it is bit hard, but still good book. It is first part in Hand Of Thrawn Duology, second part is Vision of the Future, and I have lended also it from library and I am going to read it when I have read Specter Of The Past. Specter Of The Past is my first "real" book what is in english. I am also reading Star Wars: Cloak of Deception (finnish title is Petoksen Seitti), James Luceno. I love Star Wars books, I have read Thrawn Trilogy, Jedi Academy Trilogy, Darth Maul: Shadow Hunter, Rogue Planet, The Approaching Storm, many others and of course book versions of movies (except The Clone Wars). The last book I read was El Choco. It's about a swedish guy who gets caught smuggling some kilos of cocaine into Bolivia. He gets sent to a prison in Bolivia which is run by the inmates. The guards takes bribes and only makes sure no-one escapes. The guy meets a girlfriend before he gets caught so she comes to visit him sometimes. It's a true story so it's really interesting to read what it's like in Bolivia and in the prison he gets sent to. I would definitely recomment it. I give it 10/10. My favorite book of all time is World War Z by Max Brooks. It is essentially about a U.N. report writer going all over the globe gathering peoples stories from World War Z which basically involved zombies almost wiping out all of mankind. It sort of sounds silly since its about zombies but Brooks uses it to make some really good commentary on government, society, disaster response, and a myriad of other things. In my opinion it is the gold standard of any sort of horror survival book. It actually has a sort of prequel called the Zombie Survival Guide which is more tongue in cheek but it makes a great addition to World War Z. |
