Anyone going to ask Dr. Drew what he thinks of Surgeon General Gupta? I'm kind of interested whether Dr. Drew was under consideration. If the criteria is someone who is able to communicate health issues through mass media, I don't think there's anyone better than Dr. Drew, but I have the feeling he might not have been under consideration because of how frank he is on reproductive issues. |

I'm not sure Drew would be interested in that. Seems like a huge commitment and a major pain in the ass. Can't imagine he'd want to move to DC and stop his day or night jobs. |

i doubt he'd be under consideration anyway because i think most people see him as just a celebrity doctor and choosing him as surgeon general would probably be very controversial and he wouldn't get taken seriously. but he would be the hottest surgeon general ever. |

Stryker actually brought this up on Loveline last night, interestingly. He did mention the appointment of Gupta; just after that, though, the news source he was reading (I think it's this one) suggested Drew for the position of drug czar. I do think Stryker read a little too much into it when he got all excited about it over the air--he made it sound like Drew was actually under consideration for the position, whereas to me it's clear that the suggestion is strictly on the part of whoever wrote that news brief. (Plus Drew said he wouldn't be interested in being the drug czar anyway because it's a hard and thankless job.) |

I caught that last night while I was listening to Loveline to. I think Stryker was excited that DrDrew's name was mentioned. And you're right--it looked like they just made it a part of the story. It was nice when DrDrew shut em down on any possiblitly even if he was to be asked. DrDrew doesn't need that job anyway. He's doing more of service by being on the radio and all the other things he's involved in. |
