This is just some poems I've had to write for English assignments, the assignment being to write a poem with the same theme as a poem we were supposed to read.
From "When I Heard the Learn'd Astronomer"
The pews fill up with empty faces Listless, staring into the forward black abyss the void where once stood hope, Logic, freedom
Their word corrupted, propagated falsely, torn to shreds In the hands of fools Behind a veil they operate, spreading their manufactured messages among the populace The flock being tend to, sheep in calm sleep
Lies left loose, undetected An organic rhythm interrupted by inevitability A few simple words twisted into something; Something different from original intentions Evils blacker than the suns But what of hidden light?
A short few sparks; in futility Attempting to start a fire Watch the knowledge spread, hatred leave Malicious grins turned
Beliefs criticized, analyzed, ripped limb from lib By what they called light Oh, the terrible majority Leaving wrath and discord in their wake
Naught but death teaches such grave lessons Fractal ignorance, exponential Lies hidden in divine findings Incognito, blinded to what little truth remains
Power dwells within all Some too foolish to use it Some too quick to harness it Still others who bring light
Suicide and redemption, two words unknown to those who would remain so closed Their correlation obvious, if only you are to look Imitation, reclamation, institution, a final solution Empty hearts in empty places
Systemic annihilation, each word bringing only more confusion More to interpret, inherit More to blunder with idle hands For it has been said what work they do
Twin divinity, purported as heinous traitors Those who refused to follow the dictatorial doctrine Reaping the grain of their choice What is better left unspoken
Solace, serenity, anything to be had From our pretentious conclusion Obtuse, over-corrected, left dissected Abandoned in lieu of an ancient institution
Witches in Las Vegas
Smoke filtered through blackened lungs Infectious laughter runs through the air Some left gibbering, speaking in tongues All throughout this sinful lair
I watch in silence, it eats away at me As I see these substances rule their lives I want to save them, help them to flee To run away from this slow demise
A change of pace, a brand-new setting Money exchanged, dreams crushed and made An outburst of emotion, quite upsetting On the faces of both the failed and paid
Another place, more shady this time Still money is made, but for another reason A house filled with sex and with crime A corrupted place, a hotbed of treason
Sex, drugs, and money are the powers that be Here, where the godless and damned make their stand But yet it is a different power that leads me Split deity offering a peaceful hand
From "Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening"
Through a dark forest we travel Seeking the Night Seeking the light
Sanity begins to unravel Caught in the blight All is so bright
We are blind to see what's before us Stuck in this dream Nothing is seen
Though the lost spaces adore us Pull back the screen Let out a scream
I'll put up the rest later; I made one that was five pages long and I'm too lazy to type it right now. >.<
