DCG Members,

"Breakout" is a magazine for indie comic creators to get your work on the shelf where it belongs. It’s the ground floor, plain and simple.

Interested? I know I am.

“Breakout” is a quarterly variety magazine published by Dark Dagger Publications, a company co-owned by Nick Mohr (that’s me), Ryan Howe, and Marc Athanas. “Breakout” exists to provide indie comic creators with some exposure and experience. It’s printed in black and white, contains multiple stories from 1-16 pages each in length, and allows for any genre you want to submit.

The book is paid for by the creators involved, based on how much of the book is their work. So if 10% of the book was your work, you’d pay 10% of the final printing cost. Profit operates exactly the same way. Bottom line, it’s a chance to put your money where your mouth is. After all, we’ve ALL said “I could make a book better than that” at one time or another. Now you can prove it.

The overall tone of the book is PG-13 (U.S. rating version), which basically means it’s ok to show a person getting shot or stabbed, but not to rip a person’s heart out with bare hands. I’m sorry if the rating feels constrictive, but it’s a promise we make to our advertisers and they’re a great help in lowering the cost to produce the book.

Most importantly, everything printed in “Breakout” remains the property of the original creator. We may be printing it for you, but you still own it. I don’t know about you, but that’s pretty important in my books. “Breakout” is edited by me, Nick Mohr, so I’ll be there all along the way to help you out.

Anyone interested in submitting work to “Breakout”, can contact me at this forum or by e-mail at salohcin@rogers.com.

Stay tooned for more,

Nick
