Introduction Since the last incarnation of DBL, much has changed in the RP universe, and roughly 200 years have passed. Before I go into the details as to how everything is, I want to explain why we've taken this approach this time. Previously, some felt the lore was too 'restrictive' due to the heavy RP control over Earth (granted, some others enjoyed this). This discouraged some individuals from RPing. The changes were done in an effort to please both sides. Earth This used to be the hub of the RP world, but is no longer necessarily the case. In the past 200 years, the three governments of Earth, as well as Esperanza, have come together to form one unified body, known as the United Earth Alliance (or the UEA). It is run by a total of thirteen individuals--three elected from each province (Euphor, Cordial, Halcyon, Esperanza) and one appointed by those twelve to serve as a speaker and tie breaker. Under the UEA, Earth has expanded its KDF technology to the point that the entire planet is now protected by satellites in orbit (the satellites also protect themselves). Because of this, the 'war' with the ki users had ceased, though the racial prejudices that existed have not changed. With peace on Earth, the focus of humanity turned outward into the galaxy. The UEA had authorized several colonies to be established on nearby worlds, and over the years, those colonies have flourished. Numerous other colonies have sprung up, settled by corporations, individuals, splinter sects, pirates, etc, but they have few ties back to Earth. In order to protect Earth and the UEA colonies, the UEA maintains a fleet of advanced starships ranging from scouts to dreadnoughts and carriers. UEA Colonies These colonies retain a close relationship with Earth. They are generally highly advanced in terms of technology, and tend to have spaceports to facilitate trade with the homeworld and the other colonies. They also tend to be protected by KDFs on the off chance that a rogue sect of ki users should venture near them. There are roughly a dozen UEA colonies, and all of them are close (less than 100LY) to Earth. Independent Colonies The term 'independent colonies' is used to classify any colony, settlement, or space station that does not have official ties to Earth. While unofficially, many of them will trade with UEA colonies and with Earth itself, they are not protected by Earth. Some go so far as to want nothing to do with Earth or the UEA. There is intentionally very little lore on these colonies to give players the opportunity to develop them on their own. Tempos 'Tempos' is the unofficial name given to a recently-discovered world that is sure to be the center of the RP world for a while. The planet is home to a species that is roughly as advanced as the Native Americans of Earth were, when they were 'discovered' by Europeans. The planet's atmosphere consists largely of methane and carbon dioxide, with enough oxygen to breathe with some difficulty; because of this, the sky tends to be a purple in color, with the clouds typically dark purple to dark green. The ability to sense ki energy is heavily disrupted by the planet due to temporal interference from the planet's core. The 'ki sense' can detect things, but they will be refracted and reflected, impossible to pin down precisely. Additionally, the species native to Tempos has the innate ability to bend time. At present, this information is being heavily controlled and is not widely known. But because of this ability, it is presumed that they will be sought after by specific individuals and organizations for slavery and experimentation. Haven The Haven space station was removed from orbit nearly 200 years ago by unknown forces. It was last detected heading into an unexplored sector of space. Note: This thread will be continually updated with lore information. |
