Q) What is DBLore?
A) DBLore is a Dragon Ball themed MUD (for definition of a MUD, read further). It is heavily RP-based, with emphasis split between RP and the game itself approximately 70/30.

Q) What is a MUD?
A) A 'MUD' is short for Multi-User Dungeon. They were, and are, the predecessors of today's common MMORPGs. But rather than being graphical, they're text-based, and all of the processing is done on the server, not on your machine. This means there's nothing for you to download and install (except for a general-purpose MUD client). It also means essentially any computer can play a MUD--even if you have an old Pentium II, for example.

Q) So how do I go about playing?
A) First, you'll need a MUD client, as previously mentioned. Some are available for free, others you have to pay for. We recommend a free client called MUSHclient. You can find it here: http://www.gammon.com.au/mushclient/mushclient.htm.
Then, once you've downloaded and installed the client, you need to point it to our server. That's relatively easy. You just need to give it the address (dblore.dyndns.org) and the port (7000). Then, make your character, and you're set to go.

Q) I can't connect to dblore.dyndns.org. Is the MUD down?
A) Most likely not. See, we host the MUD on our own server for security and financial reasons. If you can't connect, it's likely because of a couple reasons, in no particular order:
1) We've lost power. The MUD and our modem is on battery backup, but that won't keep it running more than about 10 minutes in the event of power failure.
2) Our IP has changed and the host hasn't been updated yet. Because we're hosting on a dynamic DSL connection, our IP changes on occasion, and we need time to update dblore.dyndns.org for any changes.
3) We've temporarily taken the MUD down for server updates.
Most likely, it will be either reasons 2 or 3. If so, check back in about ten minutes. It's also very much okay to contact the admins via either PM or MSN and let them know you're having trouble connecting.
