In RS (Religious Studies) we're learning about near death experiences, where people experience death and what happens after death. Take a look at this fascinating video. We heard about a few different experiences of this at school and heard about some scientists' theories about how this could happen. One of them said that we don't have minds and that we have millions and billions of circuits in our brains that are all linked to each other which make up our person and since hearing that, because of how it made so much sense it made, has changed everything for me and my whole entire view on life. I don't know what to think anymore. She said stuff about the reason why people experience what happens after death is because their brains release lots of endorphins which make us think about everything and anything, and the reason why people see a white light at the end of a tunnel is because in the centre of all the circuits in our brain is where the main electrical charges gather up - meaning you sense light only in the middle because nothing is happening anywhere else in your brain; which is where they would see the blackness. And what makes them think they're going into the light is the fact that the light is getting bigger because of the electrical charges getting bigger, but when you're in the operating theatre, you are clinically dead... so that begs the question: How can your brain possibly store the memory of ones near death experience if it's inactive and nothing can happen? |

I've seen many of these accounts. On the flip side it IS possible to recreate the floating feeling and the bright light - NASA's space cadet often experience such things when close to unconsciousness in those centrefugil (sp?) machines that rotate the cadet at verh high sppeds to get them accustomed to immense gravitational pull. BUT, that does not mean their conscious "minds" do not leave the body temporarily and nor does it give them the experience of reviewing their lives or stepping outside of themselves. So accurate are some accounts that I firmly believe in life after death. I know a man who had such an experience. One man died on the operating table in much the same way as others. Not only could he see himself but he was later able to describe in exact detail who was in the room, the exact procedures and equipment they had use to perform on him and he also remarked that the walls became transparent and he could describe exactly what his wife (who had rushed to the hospital and not seen him that day), was wearing and where she had been sitting. He could not have known at that time as his wife was still precluded from the theatre. But there many such revelations and the equipment this one man described was very obscure. He was saying things like 'You pumped on my chest three times, the nurse gave such and such a reading and grabbed a pump. You ordered so and so an amount of (whatever)...' Even had he guessed it astounded the surgeon who confirmed that he spoke as though he had been a witness to his own treatment. I think the guy joked and said 'No need to thump me so hard next time'! And that blind woman could see things for the first time

I heard of that man. Apparently when he said that to the doctor the doctor just walked away.

Might be a different man - well it must have been (mind you there are several accounts I have seen on TV similar to the one I mentioned) I also have read books from mediums who have communicated with spirits and they've all mentioned this thing about having to review their lives - feeling the exact way you made others feel during your time here, be that good or bad. *Is scared*

Wow, impressive stuff... I didn't used to believe in near-death experiences, but the little story Lo wrote is pretty much proof that it does exist... Btw, mind elaborating about that blind woman that saw for the first time, Lo? I haven't heard of it and it sure sounds interesting

It's shown at the end of Phlip's little video link but basically this lady was born blind and had no perception of anything visual and only ever dreamt of taste, smell, sound and touch. That was until she was involved in a car accident aged about twenty and she suddenly saw for the first time. She recognised her patterned wedding ring (she must have known it by touch previously) along with her hair and wondered if that was her body. She felt completely detached from it and saw everyone panicking in the hospital but she couldn't care as they seemingly couldn't hear her or see her so she went up through the ceiling and floated around freely. She saw trees, birds and... people that were eminating light (spirits), and she'd never even had the concept of light before. But she was sent back and as soon as she re-entered her body she found it excruciatingly painful. She said she felt very heavy and very sick whereas free from her body she was free from the pain and all of the restrictions of her ailing, injured and also blind body

Oh, I didn't see the link there... *headdesk* Thanks for the linky, Phlipster, loved it. It's so amazing how calmly that old lady describes everything, it's like she's saying death isn't a scary experience, but rather a relaxing one... |

By all accounts it is, Janny and nothing to fear. A book I have called Life After Death opens with a story about a spirit of a WWI chap who died at the Battle of the Somme. He describes his passing over to the mediums. Apparently, when they were told to clamber out of the trenches and storm the enemy he said he could see his friends fall here and there beside him as they all ran into open fire. He said that it was as though he was invisible as men fell left and right of him but he kept on running and avoiding the bullets until he fell down a small hole. He said he didn't mind admitting that he decided to lay low and the next thing he knew he looked up and his friend stood looking down and helped him out. He said to himself "Nah, this can't be right, Charlie died yesterday". His friend told him 'You're dead old chum'.... Apparently he'd been shot dead seconds after emerging from the trench. It was so quick that he hadn't actually "realised" so to his mind he was still running. He gave a full name and his name was later verified. Apparently, many a spirit has been killed in life so suddenly that it does not become immediately apparent. One man was crushed up against a wall by a lorry and killed instantly but felt no pain and thought he was still alive until he saw himself lifeless and trapped The film Ghost was very heavily researched in that regard. They portrayed Swayze's character Sam Wheat's sudden death very convincingly I thought. |

Hey peeps. This kind of phenomenon I find fascinating, One of my first jobs after qualifying as a Nurse was working within palliative care unit, right before usually around an hour before the person passed away they would describe someone standing there waiting for them that was not there, one in particular that stands out was a lady who described a man named James, I asked the family after she passed away who this James was and they mentioned that she had a brother called James that died 40 years previously. Coincidence I do not think, or for that matter the powerful pain relief as every patient cannot have the same hallucination an hour before they die. If you look at cats for example as well, for some reason as if it was some sort of sixth sense they know they are about to die too well before they actually do. |
