I'm not sure of the enabling process - I only know how to get it going (My Computer then double click on the drive with the media in it). But for something more permanent I think Ruum is the best man to ask. I'll send him an "E"

Thanks Lo. Yes, it is the enabling I can't remember, although I have done it before a long time ago. |

Hoggy, I am familiar with XP, and I believe you have Vista. Some things are similar, but I don't know the differences. Here at the office, we are avoiding Vista like the plaque, not upgrading the masses from XP until absolutely necessary. In XP, if you open My Computer and get Properties on you CD/DVD drive, there should be an Autoplay tab, but I don't think that is what you are looking for. Autorun is a seemingly mysterious function for which there is no user interface for (ie checkbox to enable or disable) as far as I know. It involves modifying the very bowels of Windows. Have you used Regedit? It's not for the faint of heart. If you have used Regedit, then you can experiment, but "accidents" can have disastrous results. I can only offer you two links at this time. The first one is how to properly DISable autorun in Vista, but it my give you a hint as to what to change to enable autorun. The second link is troubleshooting autorun in XP, once again modifying the registry in Windows, amongst other things. If autorun has never worked on your new PC, it is likely disabled by default, unless some program you installed disabled it. Maybe there's an easy way in Vista to enable it, but I don't have Vista available to me to check. Autorun may require the user to be an Administrator, I'm not sure. Sorry I can't help more. Good luck. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/953252 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/330135 |

Thank you very much Ruum. That has actually solved the problem. You provided the answer I was looking for and it all works fine now. No, I have XP Professional too. My new PC is set up for Vista and I have the disk to load it if I wish - but I don't wish because I have heard too many bad stories about Vista and will not touch it until such time as I am absolutely compelled to. For me it's the same 'plague' that you are avoiding. Thanks again. That was a great help. |

Your problem is solved? I'm impressed, I mean, good for me hehe. I wasn't sure if my info was relevant to you, but I'm glad it helped. You're welcome, Hoggy. ![]() I'm curious, though. Did you need to modify the registry? |

No Ruum, I don't do things like messing with registries. Just did My Computer > Properties > Autoplay as you suggested. It was Autoplay I needed rather than Autorun which works fine. Yes, well done you indeed!
