Scotland Yard Suspend Body Search

In 1964, 12 year-old victim Keith Bennett, of Manchester, UK was murdered and buried on Saddleworth Moor by the lovers Ian Brady and Myra Hindley - the latter since died in prison.

After years of extensive searching to afford the child's mother some finality, detectives have called off the search until newer technology becomes available. A spokesman for Scotland Yard has said he feels sure Ian Brady knows of the location of Keith Bennett's grave but that he is possibly either not going to reveal it or he may be tormenting police with this withheld information (though I don't see any need for a bargain strike because he's still on a hunger strike and being force-fed as I understand it).

Of the five children they systematically abducted, tortured, murdered and buried on the Moors, that of Keith Bennett's has never been found, thus leaving his still grieving mother in a state of unrest.

I can't even imagine how Keith Bennett's mother must feel. It's easy for me to say "one must move on", but maybe I would think differently if I had lost a child in such a horrible way. I hope for her sake that his body is found one day.

Wow. That's all I can say. Bennett's mother must be distraught. New investigation technology could take a while to release, especially the progress we're having...

Alice: Sorry, he paid me.
Bella: How much?
Alice: The Porsche. It's exactly the one I stole in Italy.

Yes they were already searching with these machines that detect certain things emitted from the soil but the moors are so very vast that it's hard to cover the whole area properly.

The couple were known, like most killers, to have certain trophies and in their case it was innocent looking photographs that Brady took of Hindley smiling and cuddling a dog...for example. The dog one was taken very close to one of the other victim's graves. So first they had to examine all the pictures and try to find the correct spot but that's like looking for the proverbial needle in a haystack because without some sort of visual aid on the moors themselves (in the dog picture, Myra Hindley was sat on a large rock), each view looks much the same as another one - miles from anywhere with planes of thistle and moorland growth.

After years in custody, I'd be surprised if Brady actually could find himself around anyway but who knows?

Yes, I understand what you mean but I'm not a mother and also I believe in life after death. That said, there must be a certain dreadful, gutting sorrow to know that your little boy suffered such a horrible death and was cold, scared, hungry, presumably sexually abused and finally tossed into a shallow, unmarked grave after being murdered very coldly whilst that pair laughed and congratulated themselves.

His mother is still grieving because of it. I wish they would bring the psychics in. But maybe his mother is uncomfortable with that or maybe she doesn't know about it that much.

The police have had custody of tapes whereby the pair laugh and mock a young girl who pleads for her life. I doubt they will be released in our time. Neither party seem(ed) remorseful.

*cries* That would be a very painful and traumatic thing to experience. It makes me weep to hear about this. I pray for peace, but I think that the "moving on" quotes should be eliminated from our repertoire in this time period especially for the bereaved. Apparently those words don't help that much anymore. -_-

I think that, ultimately, one has to empathise and if you cannot empathise through lack of being a mother yourself (or indeed a parent per se), you have to sympathise.

It is indeed very sad. I have the DVD that is handled tactfully - it is a drama and I can give the link if anyone wants to view the story.

Sure. I have heard about this case on 48 Hours - Hard Evidence but I feel that it wasn't covered well so I could use another source.

I totally agree on the empathy-sympathy point. Unless you're a mother or you understand what it's like to lose someone you love very deeply, sympathy's the way most people go.

This gives you a starter and you may want to look around from there :)

This is a Sky News presentation.

EDIT: The movie I forgot to mention is called See No Evil but when I punch that into the YouTube search it comes back with other, unrelated links so it may not have been uploaded in whole or in part as yet.
