Hi all, not been around much online due to other committments and also a few connection issues.

A stray has turned up at Mum's. Last week in fact. He's a cute little thing, probably about a year old but very affectionate. No signs of any owners and Mum has asked around but she was reluctant to take on another cat since we had to have Buster (a former stray), and more recently, Chloe, my cat, put down due to cancer.

We still have Honey left and she's getting older now but Mum was reluctant to push her nose out of joint now she's getting all the attention! But over the weekend, we kind of "accidentally" let the stray in and we started feeding it. last night we didn't want to throw him out into the cold so if we can't rehome him by the end of the week, Mum is taking him on. We'll take him to the vet to get him neutered and wormed first.

He slept in Buster's old basket last night! he's got a very Siamese look about him - he's a tabby with white legs and arms and a white underbelly with these slanting, vibrant green eyes and a pointy face so I am convinced he's a Siamese cross. He's also very vocal which is another sign.

I'm going to think of a regal name for him if we keep him! I told Mum that maybe he was sent to us from those above ;) Seems strange that he turned up and he is VERY affectionate and as light as a feather - very inquisitive but not at all destructive. I think we have all bonded with him and none of us want to admit it xD

If we take him on I shall get some pics soon of him.

Name him after the "Ork" Desert rats and all.... "Chin" after Wingate? Chindits..... Never mind any American general...

How about "Mac" after the great American Pacific general. Or "Halsey"?

Some of the Siamese and Egyptian names are way too pretentious (believe me, I've been Googling hehe!).

I thought of Thai as a name, maybe spelt Tye?

Short and sweet but not exactly inspirational, lol.

Anywoot, get this.

There's a widow in the bungalow two doors down and Mum asked her if she might like the cat but she was very reluctant. Mum said 'It would be company for you, Doreen'. But she was still a bit reluctant but on Friday the warden came round to Mum and said 'Have you seen Doreen's new cat?'. Mum was delighted that she seemed to have given him a home but then Doreen beggared off for the weekend and left the cat to starve. Prior to that she was feeding it cawl (Welsh broth)

When Doreen came home yesterday she popped over to see Mum and said 'MY CAT!!' upon seeing the little creature and Mum had to discreetly hint that you can't abandon a cat as and when it suits and I don't think she took too kindly to that - especially when Mum said that he would have to be neutered. I said to Mum not to worry because unlike a dog, you can't "own" a cat and that cat has chosen us not her - he knows that we can offer the proper home he so craves, with love, warmth, nice food, toys and a comfy bed :)

She'll have to live with it I'm afraid because a pet is for life and you can't simply abandon it and it's clear to me that Doreen, as lovely as she is, is just not savvy enought to offer that animal the care and if it got ill she couldn't afford vet bills and to see it suffer so nearby would break my mother's heart :$

That is a cat that I would keep. I don't want to go to the animal shelter to get one as I would want to take them all home...

I hear you, Cimmee.

I too find those sort of choices impossible. That's why I am glad the cat just arrived at the door in much the same way as Buster did that time. He approached Dad in his shed one afternoon and was all over Dad - rubbing himself against Dad's legs and jumping up onto his shoulders, endearing himself to Dad.

But once we allowed him to move in he misbehaved and started stamping down his authority to queens, Honey and Chloe. He started spraying everywhere and over the cat food dishes so we had to feed him outside..lol!

He was quite unsociable towards the women in the house (me and Mum) and he couldn't be touched by a woman and sometimes not by dad. He was aggressive, mentally damaged due to suspected cruelty in the past and would scratch one's face if you got too close.

But this new arrival seems to be quite placid and Buster was built like a tank. This one is petite - if he's a Siamese cross then I don't feel he'll get too big, even after neutering and worming.

I think it's safe to say that unless Doreen kidnaps him and keeps him shut in, he'll be making his home with us. Like I say, a lot of the locals don't feel the same way as the English do about cats. This is largely a farming community and cats are left to roam about killing rats and are never taken to vets nor spayed or neutered.

My one time Welsh fiance's mother had this cat and it was a scraggy mess, always kicked outside and she moaned one day because the poor cat had another miscarriage and it happened on her kitchen floor. So she kicked the cat out. I was FURIOUS but bit my tongue. Why did she not have the cat doctored to prevent this thing happening over and over again? I just don't get people like that.

So sleep easy as we'll make sure we give this little fellow a good home

Some cats are "working cats" and never will be pets. My pets stay indoors.

Yesterday I perched Monty with his paws over my shoulder and took him out on my patio. He saw a nasty dog and whined to be let back inside. I fear putting a leash on him will not be a good endeavour...

call him Loki.........the Norse god of mischief and devilment
We are the Pilgrims, Master
We shall go always a little further,
It may be beyond the last blue mountain barred with snow,
Across that angry or glimmering sea …

Awe, I'm really jealous of all your cats... I'm away at college, where they don't allow any pets in the college-owned houses. <_< We have three at my house, but I hardly ever see them now.
