This is unusual for a college campus. Generally the are quiet.

Well one was outside of the campus.

But schools and colleges have often been targets, both here and in the US. There was the Columbine killings executed by students who had been bullied, plus Ted Bundy committed several crimes on campus. We have had shootings and stabbings too, one in which a teacher was wounded trying to save her infant pupils from a knife-weilding maniac.

I can recall several "situations" that have taken place on such grounds.

Generally a college campus in America (even Ohio State) is safe. Indiana in my experience was peaceful and fun

Well yeah. To use an example, I guess most planes are safe and thousands upon thousands fly out from one destination to another every day of the week (Cargo, light, military or passenger). We only get to hear about the odd disaster and it spreads fear into us.

Considering how vast the US of A is, I should think most campus' are safe upon more considered reflection. Besides, they have better security now, right?

There is a hightened awareness on the drive inn campus next to me. But security on a college campus is difficult at best.
