Fascinating indeed, Lo. All those galaxies and stars, such vast distances. If there were life out there, how would we find them? How would they find us? Mind boggling. |

We've been beaming messages and media out there for years but it would take approximately 50 years for any reply to make it back!! Then we may have to decode it somehow! I believe they beamed out episodes of I Love Lucy (perish the thought)

So, nobody "out there" has replied yet to your requests for recipes or lump advice? How rude hehe. |

Lo, The only signals that will make it very far are those on the hydrogen wavelength due to interstellar dust. That is 21cm. I can source it, but for now take my word for it. How will we find intelligent life? Simple, look for it. This is being done by SETI with their Allen Array (I looked at it online and found it to be a really bad joke), renting time on the VLA and the dish at Arecibo. Intelligent civilisations will use prime numbers as they do not happen naturually. The search can be narrowed by looking at stars like our sun with planets. Planets can be detected by the variations in the paths of other stars. Keep in mind several assumptions are being made in order to make the task manageable. You may want to consult the Drake equation and SETI that I have posted. |

It's times like this I miss my father because he was heavily into the cosmos and so on and accumulated a whole library of books. The only thing that deters me from reading a lot of them is that most of them pre-date more modern discoveries and when it comes to these such areas of science and astronomy, you need to be on top of your game. It's like reading a medical book from the 1800s otherwise. Thanks for the elaboration, Cimmee. |

Putting a few detection sats in orbit would greatly expand our ability to detect life. |
