Aww, I remember when me and my sister had to shorten our kitty's claws... She used to stand so still, but often let out high pitched squeals. I noticed that covering her eyes worked rather well. What you can't see can't hurt you

As with dogs claws too, Janny, you have to be extremely careful love as to how far down you clip because they have nerve endings that run quite far down, hence it is always advisable to seek a professional, not that I am suggesting for a moment that you did your kitty any harm but just adding this as a warning about what can go wrong. A cat can bleed to death through a badly cut claw. |

Don't worry Lo, I was very careful. I've researched a bunch of stuff about cats years before I owned my own. And our vet lives a few floors below us, so we always had the chance to chat with him in case a problem occurred

Actually you don't have to be uber careful. The quick is easy to see. If you cut it severly put a septic pencil on it. Getting the cat to hold still is another matter... Mine does, but then again I have been clipping his nails since he was a kitten. |

I used to clip hundreds of rabbits claws and also their teeth. We had a special tool for the job. The best way to clip the cat is to have someone hold it by the scruff whilst supporting the bottom. Holding a cat by the scruff of course disables movement but adult cats need to be supported by their bottom too. This should make the job easier and prevent the cat from sudden movements whilst you are tackling their claws! |

My `pussycat` - Eady - has fits and it has been associated with `branded` flea medicine which we soon will have to be applying as the weather gets warmer. She limps on her right front foot and her right rear leg and I think she has been involved in a road accident when she was a kitten. She seems to have no `traffic sense`and will stand in the middle of the road and arch her back at the approach of a vehicle and I fear she will get knocked down again. I have seen boy scooterists race race down the road and aim a kick at her as she squats on the edge of the pavement. http://img8.imageshack.us/img8/8287/eadie.th.jpg I think she is lovely but I don`t think she will be around long. Indeed, Wrap the kitty up like a sausage and pull his paws out. Better to get him used to it without the terror of being a pig in a blanket... |

She is basically a house cat but will occasionally wander out onto the road and most people make a fuss of her and bring her back but evil youths on scooters will try to kick her as they race down the road. I think she must have been hit on the right side by a car or some vehicle when she was a kitten as it is the right leg that is affected and I don`t think she hears too good either and can`t hear cars etc. approaching until the last minute and then she just arches her back against them.
