SQUARE ENIX TO BUY EIDOS INTERACTIVE Copyright 2009 www.tombraiderchronicles.com [ February 12th 2009 ] Japanese video-game maker Square Enix Holdings has agreed in principle to buy Eidos Interactive for $121 million. A statement released by the company confirms both Eidos and Square have agreed a deal, subject to shareholder approval. "The SQEX Directors and the Eidos Directors are pleased to announce that they have reached agreement on the terms of a recommended Offer under which SQEX, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Square Enix, will acquire the entire issued and to be issued ordinary share capital of Eidos. The Offer is to be effected by means of a scheme of arrangement under the Companies Act 2006. "Square Enix believe that the acquisition of Eidos represents a highly attractive opportunity for the Square Enix Group to create further value for the Square Enix Group's shareholders. " It is a dark time indeed, I can only find myself pessimistic at this news.

Mmm, sushi sounds nice! ![]() I really hope they win that bid, the Japanese are really creative, so I'm sure they'd make an amazing game. Maybe even revert Lara back to her old-school attitude... If Square Enix know one thing it's to create a memorable story, something that TR hasn't has since TR1... |

I don't know what to think about this really. I get the feeling that the Tomb Raider series hasn't got much longer left anyway, I'm afraid. There's needs to be a change to the tired old formula already. Otherwise, their sales are just going to drop steadily with each passing title.I'm still waiting on Hitman 5, too.

I believe the Japanese like more animated figures in games so if they go along the old-skool TR Lara (if they continue the series), I'll be delighted! But I wonder if they are obliged to continue it at all? If not we'll just have to keep playing the Level Editor, user-created games

SquareEnix is very consistent and creative so I'm sure they'll come up with something nice. ![]() I really love KH and Final Fantasy so I feel pretty confident if they decide to continue it. I found out about this on GameSpot. Their article's a bit longer. - http://www.gamespot.com/ps2/action/tombraider8/news.html?sid=6204564&om_act=convert&om_clk=newsfeatures&tag=newsfeatures;title;1 |
