Can you imagine being cramped up in one of these all day? The heat, fumes, no suspension whatsoever! Those guys sure had a lot of guts! :x

yeah ...but you were at least proof against machine guns at least (the big killers), the real heroes in my eyes were the poor buggers advancing in line abreast towards the enemy lines, and by this I include the soldiers of BOTH sides, brave guys all.
We are the Pilgrims, Master
We shall go always a little further,
It may be beyond the last blue mountain barred with snow,
Across that angry or glimmering sea …

It seems that one of the dangers of being in a tank was that when a bullet hit the outside a metal chip often flew off the inside which could injure the occupants consequently the crew wore a chain mail mask to protect their faces. Whether they wore anything other than normal issue uniforms to protect the rest of their bodies I don't know. It must have been "Hell on Tracks" being inside one in actions.

Nice tanks, seen the display at Bovington. The chain mail hats look out of place for 20th century battlefield but effective i suppose. Nice to see one working. There arn't many WW1 tanks at all working left.
