http://www.strategypage.com/htmw/htlead/articles/20090123.aspx The Red Chinese are making long term plans to become a power. Right now their defense establishment is typically Communist in nature. Good article.. |

There trying for world domination and the're doing that by spending 10% of what the US do on defence and having 80% of thier army equipped with out of date equipment? This is paranoia at it's best. |

Red China is a communist nation first and foremost. Communists by nature have designs on world domination. And they can thank Chairman Mao for their little red playbook. |

You no nothing of communism. Communism is a stateless society based on common ownership and control of the means of production and property in general. That's what they believe so passionately. Any designs on world domination (albeit in your case delusional) would have more to do with an ego maniac psyco running the country than a political belief. Right through the ages there have been people that wanted world domination, it's got nothing to do with politics. |

How did that article ever get past the editorial staff? It's rife with grammatical errors and half-finished sentences

Lo, SP cranks those articles out as faster than the London FT. SP is run by military men and analysts. They make the odd informational error (which is rare enough) but make spelling/grammatical errors all of the time. I wonder why they don't use spell check... lol I find that SP is the best source of geo-political information on the net. It features James Dunnigan noted author and analyst. His best book (which I have) is "Dirty Little Secrets of the Vietnam War. Another interesting read is "Digital Soldier". He also teaches at the War College in Leavenworth. |

So all of America imagined the cold war? And we did not send 1,000,000 troops to Vietnam to stop the onslaught of communism in Southeast Asia. No it was a mirage...

The cold war didn't start out as Russia wanted to rule the world, it started as the western allies wanted Poland and the rest of eastern europe to be free where as Stalin with his immense suspicion of the west wanted a buffer encase of another invasion. (you remember that buffer you thought was ok for the US to have, bet you don't like this one though) As for Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh asked America for help before turning to Russia, he pleaded with Trueman for help but America ignored him. Despite being close allies with Ho chi minh throughout WW2 they just ignored him. Vietnam was not part of some Global conspiracy, it was about the people of Vietnam wanting to be part of a united Vietnam instead of a north and south. It was in effect a civil war and one the US had no right to interfere with. Where would America be now had another power intervened to help the south during your civil war? America and Russia were protecting their own interests by trying to make sure these conflicts ended the way they wanted with a government friendly to them. Russia wern't doing anything internationally that America wasn't. There is no global domination conspiracy. It's all in your crazy little mind. Edited by Andy3536, 24 Jan 2009, 10:11 PM.

You have got to be kidding me. That is something I would have heard in one of my conflict theory classes and is extremely naive. This is only so much leftist revisionism that was binned decades ago. The Cold War was a direct result of Stalin's obvious paranoia. Europe was divided by the allies at Yalta under the condition that there would be free elections in Germany, Poland, Yugoslavia, Lithuania, Estonia, Latvia ect... Of course Stalin in his paranoia welched on the bargain. The approach that Stalin used with the allies was one of escalation until meeting the determined and brave resistence of the allies. Do you need examples of his paranoia towards the west? Never thought that you would ask... Rejection of the Marshall Plan Berlin Blockade Hungarian Revolution Poznan Riots Gdansk Riots Cuban Missle Crisis.. The last two were out of Stalin's era. Salin was evil incarnate and so was communism. Patton would have done well to keep going to the Vistula River! |

Ok, so let me get this straight, i say the cold war was as a result of Stalin welching on his promises and his suspicions of the west. You get angry and say no it's not it's because of his paranoia and his welching on his promises? Are you really blind or just need an interpreter? You've even gone so far as listing things he was paranoid about to prove to me he was paranoid when i said he was in the previous post. WTF is going on with you Cimmie. You've contradicted yourself aswell as with you it used to be about communists wanting to rule the world (evil laugh) as opposed to the having irational and paranoid fears over the west. |
