My Xmas and New Year holiday in Portugal this year was a bit of a mixture compared to other years as the weather was a bit of a let down as there was only 1 full and two half days of sunshine and the rest of the two weeks was mixed showers and grey skies but not a bad overall. But there was a lot less people travelling this year due to the overall finacial situations of the world etc. having said that the Hotel started to fill up for xmas and new year ready for the festivities of the Gala meals I met up with a lot of people who frequent this hotel every year after year so that was nice to see them all again and meet up. I had a nice welcome from the Hotel staff a bottle of wine and water plus a bowl of fruit in my room on arrival to welcome me back again to their Hotel. The xmas dinner wasnt served until 8 00pm and the new years gala dinner was the highlight as it was a lovel evening with entertainment all the way from 8 00pm untill 03 00am. This was a 5 course meal served with a cocktail sea food as a starter free flowing wine all night and Champainge a bit later then a Lobster meal followed by the main Turkey meal. There were 360 guests at the hotel for this meal non Residents had to pay 99 euros for this meal. When midnight struck 00 00 it was the Firework display which lasted for 25 mins also UB 40 gave a live concert there as there is allways a concert there on new years eve and well into the morning But all the shopping areas were very quite as some were offering from 25 = 70% discount but not many people buying but I enjoyed my two weeks stay in Portugal Before I went there I had a cough and a little sore throat but after a couple of days there all gone nice clean sea air Best Wishes to you all 2009.
