Well the Captain ["E.J." Smith] went down with the ship. I think he felt despair that he was unable to prevent inevitable deaths. :$

Obviously, everyone thought that Titanic was "unsinkable" and ergo, the lifeboats were on half-capacity so as to free-up more deck space. They didn't think for a single moment they would be needed.

But even those that were launched were less than half-full. More people died than was necessary because of this. They should have gone back but most feared that the suction caused by the sinking of Titanic would pull the lifeboats under as opposed to the fear that drowning passengers would swamp the lifeboats. They wouldn't have been able to "swamp" the lifeboats because the water was of such an extreme temperature that it would have usurped their energy in seconds flat. :cry:
