PORT ST. LUCIE, FL -- St. Lucie County deputies arrested a woman for what they call a "clear case of child neglect."

Theresa Platt, age 34, doesn't have a home. According to deputies, she bounces from place to place, sleeping where she can. That wouldn't be a problem if she didn't have 3-year old twins and a 6 year old son.

The family last slept in sleeping bags on the concrete floor of a converted one car garage in Port St. Lucie.

A man who lives there said he recently met Platt and he took her and her children in for a couple of days because he took pity on them. He then noticed Platt becoming abusive with the children. And he told deputies she didn't feed them for three days.

A friend of Platt's who offered to take the children to school also noticed the abuse.
When the friend arrived at the garage to pick up the children, she says Platt yelled, "I don't want them, you can have them. I don't want to take care of them."

The friend noticed the children riddled with ant bites and undernourished.

Sheriff's deputies arrested Theresa Platt and charged her with three counts of child neglect. The children are now in state care.

Platt told deputies she couldn't support the children because their father is in prison. She does receive food stamps, but witnesses say she sold them and didn't buy food for the children.
