RiverCenter’s state-of-the-art facilities include the 2,000-seat Bill Heard Theatre, the center’s main venue and home to the Columbus Symphony Orchestra. Featuring orchestra, mezzanine and balcony seating, the hall is designed to meet the complex technical needs of attractions such as Broadway shows, symphonic concerts, dance performances, pop concerts, lectures and conferences. From the ceiling large interwoven ribbons of steel mesh contribute a sense of intimacy, while shaped balcony fascias and custom light fixtures provide color, texture and warmth.

After a year of programming in its two smaller halls, RiverCenter officially opened Bill Heard Theatre in April 2002. Already the theatre has hosted a variety of world-renowned performers, including classical artists such as Yo-Yo Ma, Itzhak Perlman and Jessie Norman; popular entertainers such as Bill Cosby, David Copperfield and Wynonna; international ensembles such as the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, Moscow Boys Choir and Cirque Éloize; and national touring productions such as the Broadway shows Chicago, Miss Saigon and Cats.

When RiverCenter for the Performing Arts held its grand opening last May, the building’s many features and Broadway style made for a celebration to remember. The 245,000-square-foot, $75 million performing arts center includes:

Bill Heard Theatre, a 2,000-seat, multi-purpose hall.
Legacy Hall, a 450-seat recital hall.
A 150-seat experimental theater with movable seating and staging areas.
More than 83,000 square feet of rehearsal and instruction space for Columbus State University’s Schwob School of Music.
Created with the architectural services of Hardy Holzman Pfeiffer Associates LLP of New York City, RiverCenter has sparked new life into Columbus’ downtown, which now proudly boasts a beautiful venue to support musicians and performers

OPENING ACT: Spoonful James

It is a reunion of sorts when old friends share the stage in Columbus, GA, on February 28. Taylor’s longtime musical buddies Jeff Lopez and Brian Less perform with the Tour Band while Auburn friends Wynn Christian, Quinn Borland, and Patrick Lunceford perform with Spoonful James opening this special night of “a little help from my friends.” Loyality, honor, and fun among friends come to mind!

“Transcending the boundaries of rhythm and blues, Spoonful James blends classic blues influences with jazz, funk, and soul to create their own unique style.”

“Wynn Christian leads the band with powerful guitar work culled from influences such as Freddie King, Duane Allman, Derek and the Dominos, and B.B. King and is backed by Quinn Borland's thick bass lines and Partick Lunceford's driving drum beats.” Spoonful will have its keyboardist on board in Columbus, when Eric Baath arrives from his home in Munich, Germany, just to appear with the group on this occasion. Patrick can be caught playing with Adam Hood when he is not jammin' with the "Spoons".

“Originally founded as a trio in Auburn, Alabama, Spoonful James played the same circuits as Taylor's band, "Passing Through,” which included Patrick Lunceford. The band members became fast friends joining each other on stage when their paths crossed. In a collaboration between the bands, "Fletch Lives" was formed. Wynn formed his own band in 2003, while also playing with Taylor and Patrick in the "Taylor Hicks Band”.

“There are few symbols of American music as true and meaningful as the blues. A crying guitar trading licks with a raspy voice speaks directly to the soul. It can remind us of what life is really all about - getting knocked down, rising up, and getting knocked back down a few more times. The blues is humility on a guitar string. Spoonful James's third album, Seven Mile Breakdown, captures that true soul searching essence of the blues.”

The original Spoonful James boys are “Southern born and bred”, and Wynn and Quinn are married. They play their blues gigs at every opportunity.

1.
Saw him in Mobile, AL and Columbus, Ga and I'm here to testify: Taylor HIcks possesses the zeal and commitment of a seasoned tent revivalist. Like a fine fire and brimstone preacher, Taylor holds nothing back, leaving all he’s got on stage. Night after night, this guitar-playing, harmonica-wailing MUSICIAN transcends that reality television talent show, which shall remain nameless.

Well I just got home from tonights concert. All I can say is WOW!!!!!! Taylor had the entire house rocking. My husband who is not a Taylor fan attending tonight’s concert with me as he did not want me going alone. Well I have to say he said “While Taylor is really not my kind of music, He definetly puts on an excellent show”. He really enjoyed himself and liked Taylor energy. My husband is a diehard Old Country Fan. Now I have to say Taylor really rocked my world and from the sounds of the crowd most everyone else’s too!!! I took several pictures and will try to post them in the next day or two. Also loved Soulful James.
