Looks like nothing's gonna change,
Everything still remains the same.
I can't do what ten people tell me to do...
So I guess I'll remain the same, yes

Sittin' here resting my bones,
And this loneliness won't leave me alone.
It's two thousand miles I roamed
Just to make this dock my home.
-Otis Redding

Taylor Hicks

Tu, Mar 27 / 7:30p / $42*

After a lifetime steeped in the blues and soul and R&B of his native Southern heroes—Ray Charles, Otis Redding, James Brown, Sam Cooke, to name a few—Taylor's artistry was reaffirmed and validated in no uncertain terms this past year, as he won the fifth season of FOX's American Idol.

Taylor's dedication to roots music resounds throughout his new self-titled album, from the opening feel-good up-tempo groove of "The Runaround," the dramatic ballad "Just To Feel That Way," and the heartfelt closing number, "The Right Place," which was originally written by Bryan Adams and Jim Vallance for Ray Charles to record before his death. The spirit of Ray Charles permeates the album, most notably on "Heaven Knows," whose instrumental passages pays homage to Ray's "What'd I Say" and Marvin Gaye's "Ain't That Peculiar," the Motown classic written by Smokey Robinson.

Clips from Taylor's new album can be heard at www.taylorhicks.com.

The Edward W. Weidner Center for the Performing Arts opened its doors in 1993 and marked the beginning of a new era of arts and entertainment for the state of Wisconsin. The Weidner Center has received rave reviews from performers and audiences alike. Its outstanding acoustics, physical beauty and state-of-the-art accommodations combine to make it one of the finest performing halls in the United States.

In the beginning...
Dr. David Cofrin offered the seed gift to begin the planning stages of the Center. Two conditions were made for the gift: the Center must be located on the UW-Green Bay campus and it should serve the entire community. Dr. Edward W. Weidner, the university's founding chancellor, began to garner community support and leadership. A major fund-raising campaign began in the late 1980s, which would eventually raise the remainder of the $18.4 million needed to build and equip the facility. Support came from community corporations, foundations, private citizens, and the State of Wisconsin. Today, the Weidner Center (named for Dr. Weidner) exists as a unique model of a "comm-university" center, which is supported by both the University and the communities of Northeastern Wisconsin.

SOUL PATROL MEMORIES:

1. I was at the show last night too and his voice was flawless-so much better than on TV. Lots of young girls mixed with adults and the more mature crowd. Lots of "I LOVE YOU TAYLOR" screams. He of course replied he loved them too. Had a rendition of "GO PACK GO" from and the audience joined in. Taylor even tried to work on his Wisconsin accent a couple of times. Best time I have had in a long time. Lots of thanking us for voting for him and thank you's for buying the cd.
Quite a guy.....yes indeed

2. This concert was fantastic! Taylor's vocals were perfection and what an entertainer! Passion felt songs, wild harp playing, jamming with the band, awesome dance moves, it couldn't have been better. Taylor IS the music.

3. Southern boy with a mid-western accent...Taylor was funny last night! There were a lot of kids in the audience (along with all ages) and he took good care of them; shook their hands, signed autographs. I was glad to see these kids learning about classic soul music, along with modern whomp music too! I liked the show very much, so did the rest of the audience. 5 star show for me.

Now, as for the crowd. You have to remember this is the Midwest and the average age there seemed to be over 50...seriously. Not that that’s bad, in fact I thought it wonderful. Green Bay doesn’t get a lot of performers there, we do have the Resch Center now which is getting better acts but mostly everyone hits Madison or Milwaukee so this was a treat. The crowd pretty much sat during the show. They clapped and definitely got into the music but no up and dancing (which if you go to Summerfest you know that Wisconsin people CAN dance…of course we might need a few Millers in us to do that but we CAN and DO dance). I think the last song people stood..but that’s it. But I hope he still felt the love from the room because it was definitely there.
