I was bruised and battered and I couldn't tell what I felt.
I was unrecognizable to myself.
I saw my reflection in a window.
I didn't know my own face.
Oh brother are you gonna leave me,
Wastin' away on the streets of Philadelphia.

-Bruce Springsteen

THE TOWER THEATER:

Just one year before the Great Depression, the Tower went up in record time. The 3500 seats were installed in five days, a fact the Stone Company (the manufacturer) was very proud of. At the time of the grand opening the builder, George Kessler Co. had been a leader in theater construction for 50 years.

For over 69 years the marble palace has brought the world to 69th Street. In the 1930's and 40's with Vaudeville on the way out, movies slowly became the main attraction on 69th Street, and in the 50's and 60's the Tower presented first run movies and live events with a class and style unequaled by other theaters.

The Tower Theater remains a world class venue, and with the ongoing renovations it can only get better. Of all the venues in the Philadelphia area the Tower stands out with its rich history, lavish lobbies, and versatile facilities. Upper Darby will be on the itineraries of world class performers of all kinds for years to come.

“The Tower Theatre was built in the year 1927. A year later, John H. McClatchy opened the Tower Theater, as one of Upper Darby Townships's first movie houses. Located directly outside the city limits of Philadelphia, the theatre thrived in the busy area that was once the most highly traveled route to the city from the south. In its early years Tower Theatre showed both vaudeville acts and movies.

“In 1970 the Tower Theatre was refurbished to its current state, a concert hall. While its purpose changed, the theatre still looks very much like a building from the past. The theatre features a wraparound marquee like many theatres of the same time period and impressive gothic architecture. Inside the ceilings are high with arched doorways and marble floors. The concert hall itself seats around 1,000 people depending on the stage setup.”

SOUL PATROL MEMORIES:

1.
A live performance by Taylor Hicks is beyond comparison. He is so into the crowd, the music and the band, and NOT into himself. That's a rare thing in the current entertainment industry. I hope to see him go very very far, he is definitely among the best.

Taylor is one person who has to be seen LIVE to be appreciated. This Lancaster concert was one of the most enjoyable I've seen in years.
I've been to a lot of concerts the past decade and I have to say, this ranks as one of the best I've ever seen. I would go back and attend another one should he ever pass this way again.
