You go to Banglin', tell my boys.
What times I'm havin' up in Illinois.
In Illinois, up in Illinois.
When I gin my little cotton and sell my seed.
I'm gonna give my baby, everything she need.
You know, I been in Texas and I been in Arkansas,
But I never had a good time till I got to Illinois.

The Rialto Square Theater began as a "vaudeville movie palace" opening in 1926. The magnificently restored “vaudeville movie palance” changed it’s costume to “performing arts center” in 1981.

“The esplanade, or inner lobby, is designed after the Hall of Mirrors in the Palace of Versailles near Paris, France. The arch between the esplanade and rotunda area has been carefully copied from the Arc de Triomphe in Paris. In the center is the head of the goddess Athena.

“The elegant rotunda is surrounded by 18 Corinthian-style columns, and surmounted by a dome very similar to the Pantheon in Rome. The suspended eight-arm crystal chandelier, the "Duchess," bronze giant of some 200 fixtures, is 20 feet long with 250 lights.”

Hicks brightens autistic boy's life
Meets with family before concert at Rialto

April 26, 2007
By CATHERINE ANN VELASCO STAFF WRITER
JOLIET -- Joshua Good, 12, thought they were going to dinner as a treat for his 10-year-old autistic brother who will have surgery today.

But when the brothers from Portage, Indiana, walked into the elegant lobby at Rialto Square Theatre, they found out the truth.

Taylor Hicks high fives Jonah Good, 10, before his show Wednesday evening at the Rialto Square Theatre in Joliet. Good will have cranial facial hypoplasia surgery Wednesday morning and his brother and he are big fans of Hicks and the television show American Idol.

Joshua and Jonah were going to meet American Idol's Taylor Hicks before watching him perform in concert Wednesday night.

"I was hoping and praying this would work out," said their mom, Jennifer Good, whose husband spent the past month working with Rialto's Tina Salamone to make the meet-and-greet happen.

But whether that happens is up to the star's schedule. Hicks is known for his soft spot and makes time to meet people with special needs, said Salamone, interim director of programming for the Rialto Square Theatre.

So while Hicks had his sound check on stage, Joshua and Jacob waited in the lobby.

"There's two things that work out here very well. Performers like to sign things and casts need to be signed," Salamone said looking at Joshua's bright green cast.

Joshua's favorite show is American Idol and he said he rooted for Hicks last season.

His favorite song is "Do I Make You Proud."

"When I first heard it, I really liked it," Joshua said.

"It reminds him of what people say to him," Jennifer said. "They are proud of him for always being there for his brother."

Jennifer was hoping they would meet Hicks.

"It's a thank you for Joshua for being such a good brother," Jennifer said, adding Jonah tends to get all the special attention, including a trip to Disney World last summer from the Make A Wish Foundation.

"Joshua is always taking the back seat. I was hoping this would work out for him for everything he has done for his little brother," Jennifer said.

Last week, Jennifer found out that Jonah will have his 12th surgery today in Indianapolis to correct cranial facial hypoplasia She had already bought the tickets so they planned to drive to the hospital right after the concert. His surgery is expected to take four to six hours.

Today's surgery is part of a series of surgeries he has underwent to rebuild his face because he was born with missing bones and cartilage. In past surgeries they used part of his ribs to build his face.

"Check-in is at 4 a.m. and they are an hour ahead," Jennifer said. After the music stopped, Joshua started looking out for Hicks. After another glance, Hicks almost magically appeared, stretching out behind a table.

"He was wearing his hat. I knew that was him," Joshua said.

The boys quickly went up to meet him. "Hi buddy, what's going on?" Hicks asked.

After giving the boys high fives, Hicks signed the boys' CD and Joshua's cast.

"That was awesome," Joshua said.

"He gave him a hug. He gave him a high five," Jennifer said. "It's nice for someone to take the time out. It's very nice."

As he watched Jonah bounce away in delight, Hicks said he was glad to help keep him happy.

"I think the mind is a very powerful thing," Hicks said. "You never know how it can affect the outcome. Any kind of positive energy you can apply ... the better. I'm just a conductor."

Jennifer agreed.

"Something good and happy to bring up his spirits before the next long journey," she said.

1.
Taylor Hicks energizes the stage like super-charged musical lightning. His concerts are a fun and fantastic journey from rock, to blues, to soul. He mixes great classics like "The Wall," "Big Boss Man," "Night Shift," along with new songs.

However, the best thing about Taylor Hicks, is that he sounds even better live, than on his albums. Most performers never live up to the sound of their CD in person. But Taylor breaks that generality--he is even better live.

He radiates a passionate energy when he performs, that leaves you wanting more, more, more. Great concert!!

When my friend Laura and I arrived at the theater the first thing we saw were the buses. There were only a handful of people standing on the sidewalk in front of Taylor's bus and several security guards. I heard someone mention something about Taylor not feeling well. I asked the security guard and he said they though he might have bronchitis and a doctor and nurse from the local medical center were there checking him out. He also said he would not cancel the show. We walked around and waited in line to enter the theater and a few minutes later a doctor and nurse came through the front doors and left the building. I was quite worried since he had been sick before - it's the mother in me - I wanted to bring him some soup and tell him to rest. I can say however that what was bothering him did not effect the way he sang or looked at all....in Joliet there were a lot of men too (some of the men were going NUTS for Taylor!! )) I really enjoyed seeing that His voice was impeccable and his dancing was hot. He had no lack of energy - as usual - which makes it darn hard to take a picture of him as I'm sure many of you already know.
