http://www.cmchatlive.com/taylor-hicks-gone-country-exclusive-interview/?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter @TaylorHicks Gone Country: Exclusive Interview Saturday, September 27th, 2014 by Tiera Bolt ![]() Remember that soulful, “Do I Make You Proud?” winner of American Idol, season five? That’s right, Mr. Taylor Hicks! What has he been up to since his days on that all familiar stage? Yesterday, he graciously spoke with me and shared some BIG news for country music fans! With his single debuting at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts, Taylor Hicks has been keeping very busy these past 10 years. “What have I not been doing, is the question! I have been very blessed to have the big gigs I’ve had, such as Broadway, touring, and headlining in Las Vegas for two years.” Taylor is no stranger to country music; he grew up in Alabama. “I AM country! It’s a part of who I am. There’s a particular part of my musicality that touches on country and roots music.” Being from the south, he has been exposed to all genres of music. He even comes from a bluegrass bloodline. “Luckily, country music today opens itself up to artists who have that soulful sound, like Keith Urban. It is the best time for someone who is a ‘roots musician’ like myself to make my country debut.” Well there we have it ladies and gentlemen: Taylor Hicks is jumping on this Country Music train (and we couldn’t be happier!) So, why the change in genre? “Radio has this pigeon hole mentality, that you have to have a certain sound to be played. Country music would be where I fit in. It has always been that place for me, I just have not exercised it!” Due to the whirlwind career that stemmed from his American Idol win, he hadn’t had much time to think about the route he wanted to take until now. “Country music is where my heart is. If you’ve seen some of my relatives’ parties on the lake in Alabama, you’d see country real fast! This is the roots genre I grew up in and around.” We can expect Taylor Hicks’ country music debut as soon as early 2015. He has spent a “copious amount of time trying to figure out the best songs to create an album,” which undeniably takes time. Taylor has also spent time writing some of his lyrics as well, so be prepared for a bit of a personal feel to his new music! Some of his influences include Aretha Franklin and classic country music, however, he is very into “voices” and said,“Florida Georgia Line has come out with some of the most melodic music we have heard in the last 10 years.” Taylor Hicks is very excited to embrace this opportunity for the long haul and state enthusiastically, “I cannot wait to see what’s in store for the future of country music!” A huge thank you to Taylor for taking the time to speak with me about this new venture! With his bluegrass background and signature “soul” edge, he is sure to make a unique addition to the country music world, and we can’t wait to hear his Country Soul! Welcome Taylor, we look forward to having you for a #CMchat Twitterview soon!!! In meantime you can keep up with on his website, Facebook and Twitter |
