“The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson,” airing weeknights on the CBS Television Network, is America’s most eclectic talk show – an unscripted, high-energy fusion of Hollywood and Middle America hosted by one of the most fascinating minds working in the business today.

A one-hour showcase as likely to feature a big celebrity as it is a little-known writer, the program offers viewers a nightly window on what’s going on in the country… because as regular viewers know, it’s always “a great day for America.” The Emmy-nominated Craig Ferguson has hosted the program since 2005, and led the show to the top of the ratings with his unique brand of humor. Born in Cumbernauld, Scotland, Ferguson got his start in the entertainment industry as a drummer for some of the worst punk bands in the U.K., after which he began bartending at a Glasgow pub, where he met, by chance, a local theater baron who persuaded Ferguson to give acting a go. After several low paying acting gigs, Ferguson discovered he had a knack for comedy and was soon the star of his own BBC television show, “The Ferguson Theory.”

Ferguson brought his act to America in 1995 to star with Betty White – now a regular on “The Late Late Show” -- in a short-lived ABC sitcom. After the show ended, ABC decided to add the talented Scotsman to The Drew Carey Show, where he famously played Drew Carey's boss from 1996-2003.

Ferguson went on to a successful feature film career, writing and starring in the Golden Globe-nominated movie, “Saving Grace” and, later, the feature film, “The Big Tease.” He made his directorial debut with the 2003 film, “I'll Be There,” which he also wrote and starred in.

Craig Ferguson is also an acclaimed writer whose debut novel, Between The Bridge and the River, won widespread critical acclaim. He won further accolades for his 2009 autobiography, American on Purpose, a New York Times bestseller that chronicled the years from his childhood in Scotland to his much-prized American citizenship, obtained in 2008. Ferguson marked the occasion by hosting the influential White House Correspondents Dinner shortly thereafter.

Ferguson also serves on the board of the Lollipop Theater Network, which brings movies that are currently in theatrical release to hospitalized children facing chronic illness nationwide. He lives in Los Angeles with his wife and sons.

Taylor opened the show with Craig doing a comedic schtick and playing the harmonica with Craig. He was animated and had some funny lines.

Alabama's Taylor Hicks plays harmonica with Craig Ferguson on 'Late Late Show,' visits 'American Idol' (video)

By Mary Colurso

February 27, 2014

You were expecting robot Geoff or fake Secretariat? Alabama native Taylor Hicks kicked off last night's episode of "The Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson," exchanging banter with the talk-show host and playing a little harmonica.

Hicks, 37, was featured on the "cold open," a spot often reserved for Ferguson's favorite sidekicks or a nonplussed audience member. The former "American Idol" winner referenced his long-running show in Las Vegas, answered a few cheeky questions and traded harmonica licks with Ferguson

Hicks in is good company on "Late Late Show'; celebrities such as Ben Kingsley, Ewan McGregor and William Shatner have made guest appearances during the cold open in the past.
