Taylor Hicks Releases His Pre-'american Idol' Music, Makes Headway On New Album
By: Lauren Moraski

Taylor Hicks'early music is officially getting released. Before he won American Idol, Hicks had been writing and recording his own music and put together two independent albums. Now Modern Whomp Records will combine both sets, In Your Time and Under the Radar, into one reissued collection, which is available beginning today (August 12th), exclusively at Target.

Hicks said, "These two (original) albums represent who I am and who I am trying to represent as a songwriter. 'Nostalgic'and 'endearing'are the terms that best describe them."

All but one of the tracks were written by Hicks. Some song titles include "Soul Thing," "The Fall," "Hold On to Your Love," "The Deal," "Heart and Soul," "My Friend," and "Georgia."

Hicks has been making some headway on a new album, which he hopes to release by spring 2009.

Also expected out is a live DVD, called Whomp at the Warfield, which features Hicks'recent concert at the Warfield Theater in San Francisco.

He's currently starring as Teen Angel in the Broadway production of Grease.

Taylor Hicks before Idol

Web Posted: 8/12/2008 4:03:40 PM

If you want to hear how Taylor Hicks sounded before he wonAmerican Idol, he's happy to give you the unvarnished version. Hicks' two independent albums, In Your Time and Under the Radar, will be combined into one compilation called Early Works, which is out today exclusively through Target stores.

Hicks has sold the albums at his concerts, but he says he's happy for national distribution for them. Even though he could tweak those old songs, Hicks says he's made no changes to the records because they have an endearing quality. He says he listens to that music and realizes how much he's learned since then.

News from the radio media front:

KYFM out of Bartlesville, OK is now playing "The Fall" from EW. dogmom06's mother sent the program manager the CD a week or so ago, and he said he would listen and get Taylor's music from EW on the air along with the songs from TH they already have in rotation. Yipppeee! Yeah for KYFM!

Tishlp said she also sent an EW CD to an Austin Station, but has not heard anything yet.

That's 50/50 !! Thanks to your Mom dogmom06 and thanks tishlp for the effort. Might not help, but it can't hurt .

I wonder if more of us should try this............

That's interesting, mouser. I took my son to the 2007 Torrington concert and it was "Wherever I Lay my Hat" that he sang on his way out of the venue. At Millersville, the gentleman seated next to me leapt to his feet and exclaimed "That's my song!" when Taylor began "Wherever I Lay my Hat". I think they must all identify with the "love them and leave them" line!
