Taylor’s YouTube Pick of the Week Posted by Taylor Hicks on February 24, 2012 Introducing a new feature! Taylor will be sharing his favorite videos on YouTube and personal stories behind the performances! Taylor’s first pick is “Gin and Juice” performed live with Snoop Dogg in Birmingham. Snoop and I got in touch with each other and I asked Snoop if he ever had blues harmonica in his music. Snoop said no and we thought it was a great idea since he was in Birmingham to perform Gin N Juice together. I met Snoop and his entourage and his family backstage before we went on and we "played wii tennis together on play station". This was an awesome night for me and my hometown folks of Birmingham. credit to lindz279 |

Taylor's YouTube Pick of the Week #2 Posted by Taylor Hicks on February 29, 2012 "Allmans meet American Idol": One of the highlights as a musician for me has been sitting in with the Allman Brothers, this clip was right after I won Idol. I have performed with the brothers at the Beacon Theater and also at Oak Mountain. I have also played with Greg Allman solo in San Francisco. These group of musicians have guided me through the tricky waters of the biz and I am forever grateful. credit to elatzen |

Taylor's YouTube Pick of the Week # 3 Posted on March 15, 2012 The week before Elvis week Chris Daughtry and I were discussing song choices with Simon Cowell during the end of the show. Now that was totally against the rules, but that was a way to get a word in with the judges before u performed that week. That was the format of the show. The Judges would come up sometimes and congratulate us. That's when u could talk to them..Simon said "In the Ghetto" was one of his favorites so I took that song and musically arranged it where it grooved more... Think Donny Hathaway.... Needless to say I was moving on that week. Taylor's YouTube Pick of the Week is "In the Ghetto" from American Idol: |

Taylor's YouTube Pick of the Week # 4 ! March 23, 2012 at 9:58am The Maceo Parker Super Jam from Jam Cruise 9! This is one of those experiences as a musician that you just have to take it all in. Maceo Parker is one of those heroes that you grow up admiring if u do a musical apprenticeship on James Brown. Fred Wesley, an iconic trombone player, who interestingly enough was the last person I would wink at before hitting the Idol stage, was on the Jam Cruise as well. Eric Krasno, George Porter Jr and Ivan Neville...the list goes on and on. This cruise was a highlight. The best musicians in the world in the middle of the Caribbean Sea playing for the most knowledgeable music fan base in the world. What is there left to say... |

Taylor's YouTube Pick of the Week # 5 March 30, 2012 My Home's in Alabama: This is one of the most nostalgic moments on the first solo tour post Idol. The great Alabama Theater in Birmingham, AL. It was a dream come true for me to be able to come back and perform this for my hometown crowd. I love the group Alabama, and it makes us Alabamians proud when something really great happens to our state. The super group Alabama is one of those great things. I am very blessed to be put in these positions, and I thank you, the fans. If you notice the crowd, Alabama folks have been known to "pick a song or two" and sound great. This is one of the memories I will always cherish. |

Taylor's YouTube Pick of the Week # 6 April 6, 2012 " The Right Place " on ABC's "The View": So I admit it, I was and am still in love with Elisabeth Hasselbeck! "The View" was so sweet to me. Barbara Walters is an icon. And this was a great version of "The Right Place" that Jim Vallance and Bryan Adams wrote for Ray Charles, I happened to record it on my post Idol Album. What a beautiful song.... Hope to sing it with Bryan Adams soon... I consider him a friend... Cheers! Taylor appeared on The View to promote his new book. And while he was there he also gave us the debut TV performance of The Right Place, a song written by Bryan Adams for Ray Charles before his death - but given to Taylor by the Ray Charles estate last year. |
