WHERE IS THAT ELUSIVE "BEST CHEESEBURGER" FOR WHICH TAYLOR HAS BEEN SEARCHING THESE MANY MONTHS. As he travels to various cities this summer and fall, perhaps he will chance upon , that gem , that morsel of meat and bun , that IS the best dang cheeseburger he has ever eaten .

Posted Image

Ok, a cheeseburger is a hamburger with cheese on it . Simple to make? No way!!

The first cheeseburger was created between 1924 and 1926 by a chef named Lionel Sternberger in Pasadena, California, USA. The anecdote goes along the lines of a passing homeless man suggested Sternberger should add a slice of cheese to his hamburger order, Sternberger then added this to his main menu and the cheeseburger was born.

Other places have claimed the invention of the cheeseburger as part of their local legend. Louisville, Kentucky-based Kaelin’s Restaurant has claimed to invent the cheeseburger in 1934. The following year, the trademark for the name “cheeseburger” was awarded to Louis Ballast of the Humpty Dumpty Drive-In in Denver, Colorado.

So we can’t be 100% sure who first had the idea of slapping a piece of cheese on top of the burger patty to create our beloved cheeseburger, but we do know that the cheeseburger is an all American creation that has been exported all over the world.

It is my contention that you can't get a good cheeseburger ( or hamburger ) anywhere any more. If you want a really good burger: go buy a calf, feed it corn and corn meal , plump it up, butcher it and you will get great hamburger meat, loaded with the fat that makes a burger taste great. Today, cows are feed with grass and other food products ( no corn ) because this produces a cow that is leaner . The demand for leaner meats has ruined the cheeseburger !!!!

Taylor will be in several cities for his Mini Tour this summer and fall. Each city boasts great cheeseburgers and I , for one, would like to see Taylor journey to each of these lauded establishments and put his seal of approval or disapproval on their premier cheeseburger.

FIRST STOP:

BALTIMORE, MARYLAND:

1.The first location is Five Guys Famous Burger & Fries which is located at 201 East Pratt Street, Baltimore Maryland 21202. The telephone number is 410-244-7175. On the menu you will find everything from your basic hamburger to your little bacon cheeseburger. You can top it with whatever you like include Jalapeno Peppers which are a favorite among many in the area. They also have drinks with free refills and they cook their friend in pure peanut oil which contains no cholesterol. They serve their burgers up quickly and you can take your order to go if you don't want to eat there

2. Johns Restaurant and Carryout is located at 3001 O'Donnell St. Baltimore Maryland 21224. The telephone number is 410-276-7222. They are open daily from 11:00am until 11:00pm which is when

SECOND STOP:

NEW YORK CITY:

Top 10 Burgers in New York

http://www.gayot.com/restaurants/best-newyork-ny-top10-burgers_1ny.html

Slow down on fast food hamburgers. Whether you enjoy your burger old-school—ground chuck pounded into a patty with tomato, lettuce and onion—or new-wave—Kobe beef topped with foie gras or a turkey burger with avocado and sprouts on a brioche bun—have it your way at one of these Top 10 Burger Restaurants in New York, presented in alphabetical order. Do you want fries with that?

1. Burger Joint
Le Parker Meridien New York
119 W. 56th St. (Sixth Ave.)
New York, NY 10019
Even people who stay in the swank Le Parker Meridien like a good ol' burger once in a while. So hidden behind a curtain in a corner of the lobby is this secret snack bar serving all those naughty cravings: grilled burgers with the works, fries, milkshakes and beer on tap. Slumming never felt so good.

2. Corner Bistro
331 W. Fourth St. (Eighth Ave. & Jane St.)
New York, NY 10014

Though not a Bistro by any stretch of the imagination, Corner Bistro, located on an actual West Village corner, is a New York institution. It's dark, grungy and loud, but it also serves one of the best burgers in town. Regulars slip into the scarred wood booths and order the Bistro Burger topped with bacon, cheese, onions and tomato. It's served on a paper plate and is a delicious mess. There are a couple of other things on the menu, but we don't know why anyone would bother ordering anything else. Every true New Yorker craves a Bistro Burger at least once a year. Fries and a draft beer are the usual accompaniments. It's always packed, even late at night (it's open until 4 a.m.), but you'll have the great jukebox to keep you occupied while you wait for a table.

THIRD STOP:

July 27, 2010 will find Taylor in OGUNQUIT , MAINE where he will find it difficult searching for a fine burger , but he should stop at:

MC Perkins Cove

111 Perkins Cove Rd

Ogunquit, ME 03907

(207) 646-6263

www.markandclarkrestaurants.com

Hands down the best Sunday brunch in Ogunquit. Definitely on the pricey side, but worth it for the quality of the food, the live jazz, and the ocean views. The Kobe beef burger is mighty tasty, the Huevos Rancheros are near-perfect, and the cottage cheese pancakes are fantastic. And I hate pancakes, so coming from me that is high praise indeed. Other offerings during brunch include a tower of seafood, an oversized lobster roll, and a lobster eggs benedict. Call ahead to make reservations.

The Monday burger special which is a cheeseburger a side and a pc of choc cake runs 8.75 plus drink. Great burger. Juicy and delicious. One of the best burgers I've ever had in allentown Avoid early hours as this is a favorite of seniors and you may have a long wait. The burgers are very good, cooked well and getting back to those onion rings - an absolute must no matter what you order!

2. Five Guys Burgers & Fries

Amazingly good burgers. All ingredients are very fresh. Order the smaller burger if you only like one patty. The regular burger has two. If you are in want/need of a great, comfort-food, cholesterol-bomb fix, then Five Guys is the place for you!
by TR3B

SIXTH STOP:

BAY CITY , MICHIGAN Again we are bombarded with fast food chains claiming to have great burgers. I am just one who believes that a Wendy's , McDonald's or BurgerKing cheeseburger just doesn't cut it. Taylor beware . Bay City may not be a goldmine for anything but the Golden Arches. I would go to Bay City Bill's . Am betting that Taylor would choose Hooters.

A&W All-American Food

Lone Star Steakhouse & Saloon
4107 Wilder Road, Bay City, MI 48706

rjewell28 : For fans of dive bars this is a great place
fleagirl says: as close to a pub as you could get in the area. Dingy, dirty, and small--great punk-packed jukebox, pinball and pool. You wouldn't want your mom using the bathrooms. In fact, you probably wouldn't want your mom coming here at all. The back patio is the place to be--but be forewarned, there are *gasp* smokers back here! When the grill is up delicious smells abound, a la burgers and other grill fare.

4. Joe's Cable Car Restaurant
Posted Image

4320 Mission Street
(between Silver Ave & Tingley St)
San Francisco, CA 94112
Neighborhood: Mission Terrace

Here at Joe’s everything is fresh. 100% U.S.D.A., federally selected choice beef chuck is specially selected. Our burgers are always tasty and juicy, slowly cooked medium-rare unless you specify otherwise. We ask a lot of questions that help us to fully satisfy your stay at Joe’s. Please order your ground steak burger the way you would like your steak cooked.

All of our fresh ground steak beef burgers are served open faced for your inspection. (Sorry, no secret sauces.) Following food critics’ testing method, slice off a small piece of the patty without bread, taste it and come to your own conclusion. All garnishes are on the side.

5. Irving Street Cafe
Ya can't beat a place that gives out free gum !!!! Food cooked with "soul and love"..............how can Taylor resist this place. And if he wants a great breakfast , this is also the place to "chow down."

716 Irving St
(between 8th Ave & 9th Ave)
San Francisco, CA 94122
Neighborhood: Inner Sunset

This place rocks.Oh, and the free gum with the check is the greatest thing since sliced bread (which, incidentally, you also get with your meal). Double win! says Lara C from San Francisco

Sara notes: Mom-n-Pop family owned diner- everything seems like it's cooked with soul and love. It comes through in their food.

Amit S. from Inner Sunset, San Francisco, CA

My favorite brunch place in my hood still has me 5-starry eyed!

1. It's been family owned for nearly 20 years and kudos for having survived for so long in a market where chains are replacing family owned business.

And when they say family owned, they mean it. The mother started it and now the daughter runs it. Great lady whom I chat with about everything under the sun and get so much information on the neighborhood and how its grown over the years... yeah! I'm a SF history buff!

Their clientele includes neighborhood regulars, folks from UCSF, Inner Richmond, Cole Valley, West Portal and of course, tourists.

2. My staple dish is the Denver Omelet with bell peppers, onions, ham, no cheese with hash browns (they make theirs nice and crispy... oink! oink!), 2 strips of bacon and coffee - final tab with tip is $13.00. Can't beat that! Good sized servings. Also, they do not take cards so come with cash... how novel... cash!

Is it greasy? Oh hell yeah! Perfect place if you're working on a hangover from last night (Trax in my case today AM).

3. Service is quick, friendly and just nice. Not in your face and your coffee gets refilled and empty plate taken away on time.

4. If you're on your own, the bar is a great place to get quickest service. On weekends there can be a wait to get a table but its worth it.

5. Parking is a B@#$H but that's what the Muni is for.

That makes it 5-stars, no? If you're looking for a place to get a good and hearty breakfast without the frills and cosmetic surgery, that won't break the bank and get friendly, family oriented service, these guys are your to-go peeps!

TENTH STOP:

RUTLAND , VERMONT:

The usual names abound: Wendy's , McDonald's, BurgerKing. You would think that in Vermont where milk is king, that cows would be prevalent and cheeseburgers supreme.........No go tho !!!! The one below seem to be the only "restaurant" not of the fast food variety.

1. Tapas
128 Merchants Row Ste 1
Rutland, VT 05701
802-775-1550
The New American Grill & Tap Room
46 Diamond Run Mall Place, Rutland, VT 05701

ELEVENTH STOP:

PHILADELPHIA:

Philly is known for its cheesesteak , so you would think that a good cheeseburger would be a known quanity. It seems like there are a lot of establishments purporting to offer "the best cheeseburger in Philly ". Taylor could hit the jackpot while doing the SOS Children's Village Benefit Concert .

http://www.phillymag.com/restaurants/display/best_burgers_philadelphia/?gallery_idx=471&row_position=13&photo_idx=5384&thumbnail_num=5

1. Butcher and Singer
1500 Walnut Street
Philadelphia, PA 19102
Phone: 215-732-4444
|

2. Gourmet Burger
We tried, with every bite, to determine exactly what it was that made this burger so superior. The mix of full-flavored meats? The careful dab of secret sauce? The crispy applewood-smoked bacon? The melt-y English cheddar? The house-baked brioche bun? Oh, who cares? Order. Chew slowly. Enjoy.

3. Good Dog
224 South 15th Street
Philadelphia, PA 19102
Phone: 215-985-9600

4. Dilly's Corner
Routes 263 and 32, New Hope; 215-862-533
Dilly’s unassuming burger — it costs less than $3, it’s served on a Kaiser roll, and you’re in charge of the condiments — proves that looks are deceiving. Because this burger is seriously juicy, seriously cheesy, and seriously messy. What more could you ask for? Price: $2.75

5. Barclay Prime
237 South 18th Street
Philadelphia, PA 19103
Phone: 215-732-7560
|

6. Village Whiskey
118 South 20th Street; 215-665-1088
Both burgers here are served on a soft sesame-seed roll. The Village Burger is 8 ounces of Angus beef, topped with a house-made Thousand Island dressing, bibb lettuce, and tomato. The Whiskey King started out at 10 ounces, but has since slimmed down to 8. No matter — it’s still decadent, topped with sweet cipollini onions, melted blue cheese, bacon, and foie gras. Price: Village $9, King $24

7. N. 3rd
801 N 3rd Street; 215-413-3666
All of N. 3rd’s burgers come with lettuce, tomato, and onion — but for just a quarter a topping, you can build the eight-ounce patty up to your taste. We’ve been known to go the chedda/jalapeno/guacamole route. But really, you can’t go wrong. Price: $9

8. Pub & Kitchen
1946 Lombard Street; 215-545-0350
The Windsor burger is rich and delish — with house-made bacon and English cheddar — but not too overwhelming. Price: $12

9. Great Burger
3616 Welsh Rd. Upper Dublin Shopping Center, Willow Grove; 215-657-6100
It’s a bigger, badder version of your favorite fast-food chain’s rinky-dink burger. Steamed, sesame-studded bun; fresh-ground, hand-formed patty; and your choice of free fixin’s — lettuce, tomato, onion, or, maybe, salsa and jalapeños. Price: $3.69

10..Le-Bec Fin
1523 Walnut Street; 215-567-1000
Prime ground beef is grilled, places on a brioche bun and topped with a sweet and earthy caramelized onion puree, cherry tomato confiture-like a jam-and served with pomme frites. Get it for dinner at Le Bar Lyonnais upstairs at Le Bec for lunch.
Price: $16 For More Info.

11. Rouge
205 South 18th Street; 215-732-6622
There isn’t much to say about this famous burger that hasn’t been said before. Juicy, enormous, and served on a Challah roll with caramelized onions and gruyere. Price: $16

12. Square Burger
Franklin Square
Stephen Starr’s snack shack on Franklin Square does a lot of things right. (Hot dogs wrapped in salami. Butterscotch krimpet milkshakes.) But its real claim to fame is perfecting the all-American burger: grilled to order, then topped with no-fuss American cheese, diced raw onions, pickles, yellow mustard, and ketchup. Hurry, it’s only open till end of this month. Price: $4.75

TWELFTH STOP:

EPCOT :

The Three Best Burgers in Disney World
Jun 26th, 2009
by admin.

A lot of people think that the only thing to eat in Disney World is burgers because of the kid factor. In fact, I hear lots of folks lament that they couldn’t exist solely on all that junk food, and that’s one of the big reasons why they don’t vacation in Disney World.
Well, lucky for us, there is a variety of food (both high- and low-brow) to eat in Disney World. Thank goodness for the wine and food fest !!!
But they can and do make some pretty mean burgers!

1. Le Cellier Grilled Angus Chuck Burger: You might have to sell your firstborn to actually get a reservation at Le Cellier, but once you’re in you can get this yummy burger for just $12.49. Le Cellier is deservedly known as a steakhouse, and someone at your table should absolutely order the famous Filet with Mushroom Risotto; but if you like burgers, this is a grand opportunity.

Posted Image
Le Cellier Burger

What makes this one so good is the Black Diamond Cheddar melted on top. The cheese has a strength to it and the flavor will knock you out. Definitely worth a try.

Note, however, that this is only available at lunchtime at Le Cellier.

Grilled Angus Chuck Burger topped with house-made onion ketchup and your choice of cheddar or blue cheese $12.49

2. Liberty Tree Tavern Angus Chuck Cheeseburger: Another one that’s only available at lunchtime, the Liberty Tree burger is one of those unexpected surprises. While I’d been a die-hard pasta fan there for awhile, I tried the burger one day and was so impressed I had to split it with the rest of the table.

Posted Image
Liberty Tree Tavern Burger

Thinking it was a fluke, I ordered the burger several more times after that initial visit and have been wow-ed every time. You know how you’ve got that great hometown diner or restaurant that you keep going back to? This is what Liberty Tree Tavern lunch has become for me.

And, please, get the fries.

Angus Chuck Cheeseburger topped with bacon and cheddar or mushrooms and provolone, served with fresh fruit or tavern fries $11.99

3. Beaches and Cream Cheeseburger: And finally, the Beaches and Cream burger! While this one’s pretty flat, pretty thin, and pretty standard, the Beaches and Cream burger wins a mention for being an authentic burger in an authentic diner.

You just don’t get more nostalgic than this.

Compliment the masterpiece on a plastic plate with some big ol’ greasy onion rings, or the lightly seasoned fries that are always perfectly crispy at Beaches and Cream. (You have the option to order fresh fruit as a substitute for the fries.) And don’t forget to save room for the malted milkshake, banana split, or Kitchen Sink for dessert!

Cheeseburger – - A juicy beef patty served on a fresh baked bun. Single $8.99; Double $11.49
Hopefully this little beef-based culinary tour has whet your appetite for some delicious burgers at Disney World.

HAPPY HUNTING , HAPPY EATING AND HAPPY SEARCHING TAYLOR:

Most of the above burger "joints" may have had great burgers prior to 2008, but after that "leaning towards the lean" and "eliminating the grease from the "Greasy Spoon" created BAD BURGERS everywhere. No fat no taste ; too much fat no waist

If anyone knows of a great CHEESEBURGER place for Taylor to try when in the above cities, please let us know.

Yep! "Someone" has got too much time on her hands!

Well, we know that Taylor can eat all the cheeseburgers he wants to and he will work off those calories on stage!

He got too skinny on the 2007 tour!

I was thinking of the best burger that I've had. I think that often the best ones are at the little out of the way "joints"...you find the best when you least expect it. Places that no one has ever heard of. Taylor might watch "Diners, Drive-ins and Dives" on the Food Network!

Of course, I think it is not in the meat, but all that "stuff" you put on it...after the cheese!

I'm hungry.

Good luck, Taylor. Maybe you will just want to bring out the grill and make your own?? Or not.

No~No~No! Everyone knows the 'Ice Burg' is the place for the Bestest Cheeseburgers in the country. Or, at least it was when I was a girl. Today, they still order through speakers on a pole; then, wait in line or walk up to the window to get their orders.

Check out the link here & see the reviews. Milkshakes anyone? All fresh ingredients. The place may not look like much, but the food is excellant. :thumbsup
