Ok we are back-Yes it was HOT-(the weather AND Taylor) I have a few shots up from hole 5-more coming- http://s177.photobucket.com/albums/w224/oldiebutgoodie_bucket/Ross%20Bridge%202010/-- He looked "simply mahvelous dahling"-tanned, slim and relaxed-you could tell by the body language he was glad to be home-and the black striped shirt looked "hot"- To explain the pics- In the first one, Tay is on far right-the pic of Jazzy is on Hole 18-notice Tay signed her hat- and the "mystery item" is one of those Hohner Rock and roll Harmonicas from online that had Tay's pic on it-he signed that for me=- The dude in the green shorts-I just sent that one cuz I thought the pants were "fugly"-he sat in front of us on the shuttle back to the parking area- Details in the recap to come later-in the meantime-enjoy the pics-- |

It looked like a beautiful day for golf in Alabama! Thanks for all your "coverage" OBG. The pictures are great. It is always nice to see Taylor relaxing on the golf course. He seems to simply be enjoying life without all the stress that he must face off the course....almost like when he goes on stage with his music...the rest of the world goes away! Very cool! Hope you ladies had a great day! |

Its recap time-I call it "Hot Golf-or "Tell TYLER We'll Catch Him on the Flip Flop" Well ladies this year wasn't the year to interact with Taylor. First off, due to signage location errors, dumb Soul Patrol drivers (me), and slow shuttles Jazzy and I AGAIN missed Taylor's harp on tee off. We had intended to try to catch him during the press time, but failed at that too. Last year we attended on Wednesday when parking was on site-and when I pulled up there after going all the way over to Lakeshore Drive following a sign that said "Lot L-Public Parking"-pulled in Regions Park-the poor security guard looked at me like I was crazy-there was NO SIGN of a shuttle over-so I go back to the site and explain the situation-we ended up at the OTHER end of the complex at the "Hoover met"--the baseball stadium-the OTHER Regions Park. The Lot L sign was for Saturday and Sunday's rounds. When we FINALLY got there I recalled that in 2007 we had been shuttled from there. By the time we got to the actual course Taylor had already teed off and was on hole 2 or 3. After asking questions of several volunteers/workers, we found out that by riding a spectator shuttle almost to the bottom of the hill and walking on further we could catch Taylor midway on hole 5-and that's what we did. The shots I have already posted come from hole 5. When we spotted him a short distance away he got out of the golf cart and I could tell by the way he was walking and swinging that club that he was relaxed and having fun and was glad to be home!! His feet were almost FLYING off that grass (too much Angel I guess). ![]() ![]() ![]() His caddy advised him on how to play the green here-reminiscent of 2007 hole 4. It was at this point that I saw Dr. Hicks accompanying Taylor. He was dressed in tan pants, black shirt and a crimson University of Alabama sun visor. Dr. Hicks approached us and I struck up a brief conversation: me: "How's he playing today?" Dr. H: "Oh he's doing pretty good. Hasn't had time to practice much" me: "I imagine so. Don't see how he keeps that schedule though. It would wear me out" Dr. H: "Well he's young you know." me: "Does he have to sing tonight?" Dr. H: "Yep. We're not gonna let him quit his day job" me: "oh of course not. Are you playing too?" Dr H: Oh no they won't let me play." me: "He looks really great and relaxed and tan" Dr. H: "Well he's happy to be home for a change" me: "It shows!! We're happy for him and we're coming to Atmore next week" Dr. H: "He'll like that". At this point a tourney staffer came up to get Dr. H a diet coke and some chips and he went his way. As Tay finished out this portion of hole 5 he was mobbed-apparently for the first time that day because the security people had to say "Folks we gotta keep it moving-Taylor's on a tight schedule today"--I had moved towards him hoping for a pic or two-he was busy signing autographs-but when the security guys moved Tay towards his golf cart I quickly handed him the small MSP gift bag (itemized later) and said "Here Taylor take this with ya"-he quickly took it and said "Thanks darlin-'preciate it", put it in his golf cart and proceeded down the course. At this point it was really getting hot-and no shade-so Jazzy and I decided we'd wait for holes 9 and 10-they are right besides each other and we could get some good shots there because the cart path goes between the two holes. During the wait (about 45 minutes) we talked with a couple of other SPers there, drank some Gatorade, ate our bananas, trail mix and granola bars and sat in the shade watching other groups play through-including Charles Barkley's group-playing just ahead of Taylor. At one point Charles asked the crowd-"Anybody know what I can do to stop my back from hurting?" I joked "Stay away from the burritos!!!"--he laughed, said "I'm trying baby I'm tryin'" looked at my Auburn getup and yelled "War Eagle" and drove off. When Tay and company showed up on hole 9 and 10 we were ready. During the break a large group of Down's syndrome children and their chaperones had come to the hole to watch the tournament-and Jazzy and I both knew Taylor would head for the group so we hung around them. Sure enough when he came to tee off on Hole 10, while he waited his turn (he played last in the group) he was over there signing and talking to them and the children were simply loving it!! ![]() ![]() Our opportunity came after he teed off on 10: ![]() so we moved to stand besides the golf cart. Sure enough he came back, we moved in, got my harmonica signed, Jazzy got her hat signed, and I noticed he didn't have a black sharpie-just a gray one-so I gave him mine-"Here Taylor here's a black one-keep it you're gonna need it"--he looked up and winked quickly-but from the closeups we got you can tell he was preoccupied with playing the round- ![]() This is the ONLY closeup we were able to get: ![]() And shortly after this he sped off to finish hole 10 and play through. Jazzy and I needed to eat so we got to one of the concession stands on hole 18 to eat and wait. Its there that we spot two guys wearing FUGLY pants: ![]() ![]() and struck up a conversation with three gentleman at the next table who were relaxing throwing down some brewskies and discussing waiting for Alabama Coach Nick Saban's group which was playing just behind Taylor's. They asked who we came to see and we told them. They were amazed that we would "come so far" to see Taylor. From time to time during the wait we held general conversations and when they left shortly before Taylor's group arrived one of them said "Tell TYLER we'll see him on the flip flop". I just looked at Jazzy, smiled and said "I'll tell TAYLOR you said that"- Shortly after, Taylor's group arrived on hole 18. It was about 2:15 in the afternoon in the full sunlight on the bleachers on hole 18-and the last shots we got was of Taylor playing out on hole 18. The best Taylor moment of the day happened here. He "shanked" his second shot out of the sand trap (meaning he didn't hit it too well)-it never really left the ground and rolled down the small hill into the water. The other members of the group hit the green. Jazzy and I saw the golf carts headed our way-the bleacher crowd roared at Bernard Langher-the pro-he waved-and we noticed that Tay's cart stopped behind the bleachers. Quickly we ran back there, in time to catch him cutting through behind the bleachers to get as close as possible to where his ball went in the water: ![]() ![]() and we scurried back to the bleacher corner and got a good view-typical Taylor- As the crowd cheered, Taylor raised his hands acknowledging them, turned, grinned, dropped the ball near where it went into the water, proceeded to hit his shot to the lower part of the green, then did the Shake and Bake and the woo and yelled "Soul Patrol" to the crowd. He then walked towards the green, grinning, waving and dancing for the crowd-at one point I "wooed" as loudly as I could, Taylor looked my way, I yelled "Soul Patrol Taylor" and he smiled and waved as he approached the green. You can see me "eyeballing" him in these two shots Jazzy took: ![]() ![]() and in here-the green shots as he played out: ![]() and here's the 2010 "behind the golf cart" shot-notice its a different set of clubs and that the bag cover has "Taylor Hicks Soul Patrol"; ![]() The group never "played out" the hole-just got on the green, shook each other's hand and left-Charles Barkley had played out just ahead of Taylor and waited for him to finish-they entered the clubhouse together and disappeared. Here's Sir Charles heading for the clubhouse waiting for Taylor: ![]() That was a typical ending to a hot, fast day at Ross Bridge. No pics WITH Taylor this year, and fewer chances to get close to talk to him or get closeups. Of course had we gotten there on TIME we would have hit the clubhouse for all the press doings. I realize he was on a tight schedule and had to get back to Cleveland, and Jazzy and I COULD have gone down on hole 18 to talk for a minute or two, but we didn't want to interfere with his schedule or delay his flight, cuz he disappeared FAST as you can imagine. What we DID see of Taylor was good-he was as relaxed as I've ever seen him, thoroughly enjoying himself (and I think the pics already posted by the Bham news and local media show that), stopping for pics when and where they'd let him without interfering with his schedule, and as usual never a cross or ill word to anyone-just a smile or a handshake, and then on to the next hole. He looked great in the outfit as you see-but the pics don't show how slim, agile and TAN he was-and how the white stripe in the shirt set off the gray hair. What we saw at Ross Bridge 2010 was a HAPPY Taylor Hicks-and THAT's worth the effort though we only saw him on 4 holes today. He was enjoying himself and as always loving being home. We are going to miss this boy when he takes the much needed down time, but unselfishly, if he stays as happy as he was today, I won't mind. Below are pics of my harmonica and Jazzy's hat that Taylor signed: The harmonica is the one that was found online that Taylor endorsed by Hohner-I bought one and had him sign the case-and Jazzy had him sign her hat: ![]() ![]() Maybe next year Taylor won't be so rushed and we can have a good encounter at Ross Bridge-but for now-- THTHTHTHTHTHTHTHThat's All Folks--Thanks for reading--now to go put lotion on my sunburn!! |
