Developers Submit a Review Camera Laugh – iPhone App Review

by StephanieS on December 12, 2009

REVIEW -”This app is sure to have you and your friends laughing!”
There are dozens of great photo apps for the iphone and many of them are more powerful than many would have thought possible with the iPhone. Camera Laugh is no different as it takes something that would have previously taken quite a bit of time and reduces it to a matter of automated seconds.

I have done my fair share of playing around in Photoshop and it was always fun to smudge, smear and distort the faces of friends and family. Well now I never have to worry about doing it just right and making sure the portions are done right and everything is even because Camera Laugh does all the work for me.

When you start up the app if gives you the option to take a photo or use a photo you already have. What you are looking for are pictures of people where they are all facing forward. Once you find it (or take it) simply sit back and wait as the app recognizes the face and does it’s work.

What exactly does it do? Well it gives the people in the photo crazy facial distortions like big noses, wide grins, squinted eyes and so much more. You can even click the blue face on the screen and give the photo a bluish tinge. For even more fun, hit the remix button again and see an entirely different face. Each time you click remix another distortion will occur with it making the faces wink, smile, or even frown.

What I love about this app is that it is so easy to use and it is does what it does so well. The changes are fluid and while they are not real they are symmetric and fit the face in a way that is much better than I can do screwing in Photoshop for twenty minutes.

I also love the fact that it can recognize multiple faces and do them both the same and then remix them just as quickly as it does one face. Just be prepared that as fun as it is to see your friends and family with distorted faces it won’t be long before they get the app themselves and turn the tables on you.

The downsides are few and small. The first is that I found the laugh that occurs when the finish product is revealed slightly annoying. It is funny and cute but it goes on just a little too long. There is an option to turn it off right on the main screen, which is nice. I would like to be able to keep the laugh and not have it go on quite so long.

The other “downside” is that I am not sure what the blue option is for. Personally I was not impressed with the effect it created and I am not sure why the app chose to have it at all. (Why only blue and what is the laugh factor in turning things blue?). But that isn’t much of a downside because I just don’t use that feature, I just found it curious.

The app allows you save the pictures or share them via twitter, facebook and email which is nice. I also like that when I rotate the phone it will show me a before and after side by side so that I can see just how much it has changed.

Try this app out, you’ll be using it every time you take someone’s picture.

P.S. sorry to my husband, my mother, and Taylor Hicks for what I have done to their photos. (Also for the bad picture quality I had to steal candid shot – no one was willing to sit still to have their photo used for this app.)
