I finally got to watch the Idol Rewind tonight, top 24 in Hollywood, and I must say it seemed that it was aimed at more Daughtry clips than the winner of the contest, Taylor Hicks. When Taylor sang ANS I got that same feeling that I often get when he sings. It starts in my chest and drops to my stomach and I can hardly breathe. Then Daughtry sang it and it just sounded flat and off. Then the Sexiest idols came on and there were all of these idols rating higher than Taylor and I was amazed. Oh, well, there is no accounting for taste. I was glad that the background showed Taylor's and Kat's pics alternating from left to right. I'm glad Taylor won when he did because I don't think he would get the same vibes from Ellen that he got from Paula. Ü Don't know when we will get the next epidode. |

I agree Medo. Taylor was at the right place at the right time........... I also agree that Ellen , whose humor I enjoy tremendously, would not have been and has not been a big fan of Taylor's . She loved Daughtry. Each to their own. |

Sexiest Idols? I must be missing something! I think we would all agree that AI set their sights on CD; since they saw him as rock ~ their puppet & money-making machine. Unfortunately, from what the reviews are saying lately, CD is really struggling to stay afloat in his career. I guess AI is finished with him & moved on to the next 'victim'? In any case, I'm thankful that Taylor stood his ground. Even with the 'fluff' from AI; We Know Who Had It & Still Does! I still get 'whelps of excitement' seeing the AI clips with Taylor. We are blessed to have Seen then, & are fortunate to have the 'Real Deal' in our lives.

Just out of curiosity-which performance of LFTC do you like best-this one or Purple Jacket? For me I like both-for different reasons-this one because of the "newness" and because he STILL had his harmonica around-and that smug look on his face after he sang-as if he's saying "How do ya like me now???" Purple jacket I like because I KNEW when I saw him come out in the jacket that he was "upping the ante" and going for a gimmick that the fans would remember-and it worked!!!! Here are the two , so we can compare them. Living for the City ( Purple Jacket ) Living for the City ( Top 12 Performance ) tosp1 1. He had more time for the purple jacket performance..... or so it seemed 2. He was more confident, dynamic and diffident in the purple jacket performance 3. Sorry to all you sartorial connoisseurs , but I hated the purple jacket......... BUT it worked for him. 4. Taylor was visibly more in control during the purple jacket performance, but his passion and exuberance was so evident in the Top 12 clip. Edited by mouser, Nov 16 2009, 06:38 PM.

Okay, Medolark and I are seeing the same episodes, I think. I saw Hollywood week on Sunday night. I think we are at least two episodes behind. Oh well, what's important is the outcome and we know about that, right, Medolark?!!! It is interesting to see them then and see their commentary now. They have all changed.... :) (Until our in house web designer returns, you can color your text so it is more readable, if you want to....maybe it is just my old eyes! ) Edited by san, Nov 16 2009, 06:35 PM.

Mouser! You must have been reading my mind. I also preferred the Purple Jacket performance & for the same reasons. The Purple Jacket wasn't exactly a 'fashion statement'. It definately grabbed the attention of everyone; so it was like a 'bonus' to the performance. The Purple Jacket performance does seem longer. I Loved the idea of him dancing on the platform behind the judges. HE WORKED IT OUT FOR SURE! Now see what you did! Ya went & got me all fired up again!

TOP 12 WEEK DOWNLOAD really good quality. http://www.sendspace.com/file/cpj1tx This next one is without the scroll, but a little less sharp: http://www.sendspace.com/file/47wc5p I think he pulled an all nighter: ![]() Two Taylor's are better than one: ![]() "Yeah, I was good, I was really really good." ![]() Woo!, Livin' for the Cit..ay ![]() Is that the Dog Pound behind Taylor?? ![]() Taylor expresses his thoughts and after thoughts ![]() THE MASTERCLASS LADY REVIEW: Taylor Hicks: “Living For the City ” http://masterclasslady.com/2006/03/16/ Strengths: Taylor -the applause and the cheering at the end of your number said it all, didn’t it? Performers like you make my job so difficult because you incorporate so much energy into a 90- second performance that it is truly hard to evaluate every detail. I was just having too much fun watching you. Who cares if you gyrate too much when you sing? It defines who you are as an artist. Yes – sometimes the movements can be a touch crazy, but, in my opinion, it is all part of the Taylor-made package. Taylor, you have embedded so much musical passion into your artistic soul and you truly love the art of making music. It is really remarkable to watch the metamorphosis when you begin to sing. . You come alive. It is almost like magic really. In fact, I was chuckling at how serious you looked when you walked on the stage and then – presto – the music began and it was a whole new man on that Idol stage. Additionally, you truly know how to entertain and please your audience. Singing is fun, right? Or so it should be. And you make sure that it definitely is. Vocally, your voice is solid. However, with proper training you can augment an already beautiful and soulful tenor voice. This was, for me, the performance of the night. Congratulations and bravo,Taylor! Critique: Taylor – I would like to see you implement some bel canto technique in the production of your voice. Presently, it lacks an inherent sustaining quality throughout your range and, as a result, your voice is not as resonant or as pure as is possible. I hope that, in addition to working on the performing aspects of your songs, you begin to concentrate your efforts on your overall vocal production. For instance, you have been singing mainly up-tempo songs. Are you rehearsing them at a snail’s pace? The slower pace would allow you to evaluate your voice and identify the areas of tension that need to be addressed. In addition, it would process the valuable sustaining element that is necessary to achieve an even and cohesive vocal sound. Finally, I don’t know about anyone else, but I would be curious to your ability to sing a slow and sustained ballad. I have a feeling this is in the works – just trying to second- guess how your mind is working. And, if not, then you must consider this or you may run the risk of being too one-dimensional and you are anything but, Taylor. Great Top 12 debut! USA Today Idol Chatter comments: Easy 'Living' for Taylor March 14, 2006 Comment Recommend Taylor has a clear sense of his musical scope, once again evidenced by his shrewd choice of the, well, tailor-made testifying soul ditty Living for the City. He tossed in enough of his patented "heys," spins and grimaces to put... Edited by mouser, Feb 13 2010, 05:53 PM.

It truly describes the distinct tenor quality of your voice. In fact, I found a great definition of a whisky tenor on the internet in an article about Rod Stewart. In the article, it defines this rare tenor voice as a unique combination of manly toughness with aching emotional pain and sexuality. Woah – that is pretty heady stuff and it applies to our Taylor? Who knew all these deep emotions were hidden underneath all the fun and enthusiasm that so exemplifies Taylor Hicks. At any rate, I digress. Taylor, as always, you entertained to the max this week. It was so clear that you respected and agreed with Barry Manilow’s creed that it is integral that a singer master the art of performance to really succeed in this business. You sang with passion and infectious enthusiasm and, although the song was not the most challenging of the evening, it spoke to who you are as an artist and performer. You had the audience eating out of the palm of your hand. Bravo! You have the most innovative and novel stage moves I have ever seen on any stage. I would be curious to know if you implement them “on the fly” during a live performance or if you rehearse them prior to the live show. Something tells me that a switch turns on full force when you hit the stage – an almost unstoppable musical force takes hold of your body and you cannot help but share it all with the audience. Whatever it is, I love it, so never change. Also, your voice actually had more clarity and focus this week. For instance, I noticed that you were sustaining the pure “eh” vowel in the word “fade”, avoiding the ugly diphthong that can muddy up a vocal sound. Good for you. You are starting to get the right, bel canto idea and how you can apply it to your particular style of singing. Yes, Taylor, This was another great performance. Congratulations! Critique: Taylor – I am concerned that we are seeing only one side to your vocal talent. As I said last week, you must begin to vary the song selections from week to week. We have yet to hear you sing a ballad and, therefore, we have not yet discovered the artistic depth of your whisky tenor soul. A slower, more poignant song selection would allow you to display another dimension to your artistry and, as well, challenge your vocal abilities. Presently, your voice suffers from a lack of technical security and a slower ballad would allow you to showcase your vocal talent and encourage you to sing with the proper technique. Presently, the sustaining element in your vocal production is very limited and, when you sing up-tempo numbers, this problem is further accentuated because of the faster pace. Additionally, even though you are a great dancer, you must remember that the vocal and choreographic elements have to be perfectly balanced. The late Sammy Davis Jr. had this down to a fine art – when he sang and danced on stage, both disciplines were performed to perfection. His voice was a viable presence while his feet were flying around the stage. He is a great role model for you, Taylor. In fact Sammy Davis performed a great song from “Sweet Charity” called “The Rhythmn Of Life” – you should research it. It would be the perfect song for you. It screams Taylor Hicks! Hope all this helps. Look forward to seeing you next week! Edited by mouser, Feb 8 2010, 03:13 PM.

By far Taylor was the best of the guys this week-taking nothing away from any of their talents of course--(except I didn't like Chris' interpretation of "I Walk the Line" because I'm a country music purist on that one) By FAR the ladies won this week-I just watched the whole episode and saw all the performances-and OMG!!! I wouldn't have know WHO to vote for this week-Mandisa, Paris, Kat AND Kellie all were fearless!!!! (I LOVED Kellie's little hot country girl bit-taught her well didn't I??? LOL!!) Boy Taylor HAD to step it up to keep ahead of these guys!!!! |

Loved how Taylor walked into the room singing Mandy. Sure got Barry's attention. Classy♥ Always thinking! I found it interesting how Barry noted how natural it was for Taylor to reach those higher notes. Taylor looked amazing in the silver suit. Even though I also didn't care for the white shoes; they did go nicely with the suit. The girls were amazing. As for the boys: Elliott, Ace & Chris sounded flat, or off-key to me. And~poor ole Simon. He must be like attempting to dance with a statue. Its rather interesting how you pick up on other things after watching it again. Funny, when I see Taylor's face, I want to say; "You've got nothing to worry about ~ you're gonna win!" Oh Yeah ~ Loved Taylor's pose at the ending! |

While this information is not part of the Idol Rewind Show , it is Idol Rewind of a different sort. I am happy to see Taylor listed as a Favorite Idol ................. Interesting videos. To watch , please click on the link The Best of American Idol: Before and After Posted by Mnofdichotomy in American Idol on November 26, 2009 A look at our favorite idols as the evolved. America loves American Idol; no big secret there. The show has become a part of our pop culture; literally dozens of the stars we hear on the radio got their starts here, all across the spectrum of genres. Pop, R & B, country, blues, adult contemporary; there isn’t a brand of music they hasn’t felt the shockwave. One of the unique aspects of the phemomenon, and one of the reasons for its stunning popularity, is the way it affords us to watch the evolution of the artists. In many cases, they arrive as raw, unschooled (but talented) singers, and we get to watch step by step as they mold (or are molded) into pop stars. So here we take a look at that evolution in some of the best contestants to grace the stage… watching first their audition, then a performance from the show, and then taking a look at the finished product. Enjoy! Adam Lambert Adam was one of the few that came in at the end of the assembly line. He was polished when he arrived, and could have cut an album pretty much from the beginning. Alison Iraheta Her bluesy Joplin-esque voice appears to have made it through the processing machine intact, with pop appeal intact. Bo Bice Something happened to Bo during that final step. He had an amazing bluesy rock voice on the show, and the best parts of it seem to have been lost. Sometimes taking the essence of the artist out for the sake of commercial viability takes away what made them great to begin with. Pity. Jason Castro Jason’s music, on the other hand, kept its hippyish appeal. He will be appealing to 13 year old girls and stoners for years. Kelly Clarkson The perfect example of the evolution. We’ve watched her grow from cutesy down home girl to one of the biggest voices in the industry. Carrie Underwood She was already an amazing talent, but has been turned into a country music hit machine. Kelly Clarkson, country version. Chris Daughtry You knew he was going to be a star the moment he opened his mouth. Once he’d been exposed, you almost got the impression that the forum of the show might be holding him back again. Clay Aiken Evolution? Case in point. Nerd > teenie heart throb > crooner Ruben Studdard Just never made it as big as expected… didn’t change much as a singer, but evolved as a performer. Fantasia Barrino Her voice was raw power from day one. And actually grew as time progressed. David Cook Like Daughtry, he was all but ready to go from day one. But we watched him learn the art of controlling a crowd, and impressively so. Jordin Sparks You’d never have believed she might win during her audition; proved to be the exception to the rule… won the thing without really changing at all. Kellie Pickler God bless her, she was a great voice and dumber than rocks. But when they got done processing her… Taylor Hicks Taylor shocked the world; he didn’t change a thing about himself- he just kept throwing it at us till we loved it. Elliot Yamin He doesn’t even look like the same guy. He had one of the best voices the show has ever seen, they just updated him a bit so he matched it. Diana Degarmo Kind of a forgotten contestant. She wowed us and then kind of went away; I didn’t even realize she had an album until I did this. Constantine Maroulis He was never destined for greatness, but he turned himself from a novelty to a contender. Brooke White She was so goody two shoes it was nausiating. Nice voice, but she really grew into it. http://telewatcher.com/reality/american-idol/the-best-of-american-idol-before-and-after/ Edited by mouser, Feb 23 2010, 05:42 PM.

I wouldn't say "throwing it at us" but maybe, "Taylor always brings it" and we DID love it! Yep, this was a nice "Taylor Hicks" google! He will continue to "shock" America as he lights those Christmas trees and warms up the stage in...oh, 2020!, 2030... Thanks, Taylor, for not changing a thing about yourself!!! |
