I checked our local Target and the two copies that were left of TD are sold. I asked if they would be getting any more and they said yes. I will check each time I go in and keep making requests. I wonder how many copies were pressed? Ü |

A poster at the BB Candy (aka skeeter) just asked Bill the other night if the sales counted for Soundscan and he said "Absolutely"...he personally reports every night.... let's see...52 more weeks of Grease (June 09-June 10)and let's say 47 weeks because Taylor will have time off... 40-80 cds each show x 8 shows = 320-640/wk x 47 weeks= 15,040-30,080...COOL BEANS (it was mentioned in another post, that Rocket Science might have something to do with him not having to wait 2 years to report) Edited by cochem, May 30 2009, 11:43 AM.

I hope that is correct. It seems like a lot more CD's would have been sold if the soundscan reports were tabulated for this year. The only other scenerio I can think of is that one must report the sales during the two years " probation" just to prove that you are selling as an independent. I rather like your findings better. Hopefully Rocket Science has eliminated the two year stumbling block. Thanks |

Here is his sales history....I think it sounds about right.. He is selling near 1000 cds/week if you calcutate the Grease sales around 500 it is not too much to believe he is getting the other 500 from random buyers...with no radio play and it not in that many Walmarts or other stores...it is what it is...And another in year with Grease should see his CD make it to 60,000... WEEK 1 HICKS*TAYLOR DISTANCE 8,990 1 999 8,991 WEEK 2 87 HICKS*TAYLOR DISTANCE 5,972 8,990 -34 14,963 WEEK 3 166 HICKS*TAYLOR DISTANCE 3,339 5,972 -44 18,302 WEEK 4, 5 4698 WEEK 6 1000 23,000 per Brian at USA Today WEEK 7 1129 WEEK 8 AI appearance 2800 27,217 WEEK 9, 10 ??sales but approx 3783 since it was reported 31,000 in sales in NY Daily News 052409 http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/music/2009/05/24/2009-05-24_kris_may_still_sing_blues_latest_idol_champs_no_sure_bet_to_cash_in_on_tv_succes.html Edited by cochem, May 31 2009, 11:35 AM.

Taylor said in an interview that 100,000 for an indie artist's release is substantial. 38,000 in sales for The Distance was a number I read somewhere |

I read that also. Perhaps the 38,000 reflects the addition of last weeks sales. About 3000 a weeks ( because of the Grease shows) is about what everyone was speculating would be the numerical possibility. 3000 per week for the next several months would be great, but I am thinking that the numbers may flucuate from week to week. How will Christmas bode for The Distance? He is in Grease until June, so there is still time to sell, sell, sell. At the rate of 3000 per week, the best he could do would be 146,000 CD's sold.......................... hhhhhhmmmmmmmmmm |

Griz reported on the New Found Freedom site that Taylor's THE DISTANCE has sold 75,000 "copies". This includes retail sales, online sales, and those he sold in the theatres after Grease and perhaps at the few shadow tours he has conducted. Taylor himself has just stated in an interview that he has sold 25,000 copies of THE DISTANCE from the Grease tour. "He said he enjoys making direct contact with fans, having, sold and signed 25,000 The Distance CDs on the Grease tour to date." If you add this figure to what he could have sold in retail markets and online , the 75,000 figure is possible. |

Taylor said in an interview not too long ago that what people don't realize is that to make X amount of money on an album you release with a major label, you have to sell X amount of albums; to make X amount of money on an album you release on your OWN label, you ONLY have to sell X amount. I think he meant that he doesn't have to sell 100,000 albums for it to be "golden".... 75,000 albums sounds great. He has said once I think that he would like to "hand deliver" 40,000 to fans on the Grease Tour. It sounds like he has probably done that. Grease was just an all around good thing!

I agree, San. When he first made the announcement about Grease, I must admit, I wasn't exactly thrilled. I felt it would take away the personal touch of concerts we were so use to. But, he incorporated his music with the theater; 'rubbing elbows' with his fans after the shows, & proved me wrong. Taylor has a brilliant business mind & & if I'm proven wrong again, I'll be looking forward to it.
