add a div inside one already existing but around it's contents?

even surrounding the previous one would work, but I'm trying to acheive an effect on the active users list by doing something along these lines

magic?
ignoring your rudeness, I found a way to do it

$("#stats_members").wrap('<div id="outer_members"></div>');

EDIT: okay, so it isn't the final way just yet, but with a little tweaking.. :wwx:
