It is summer, 1914 and Europe is plunged into the Great War. France, Russia and Serbia are at war with Germany and Austria. Your assignment is to take a major power and outline a national strategy for victory, including army objectives, political maneuvering, and any other alternate actions you deem important. (This allows for Germany to ignore Belgium, for example.) |

As Britain, it is too late to avoid war and too late to avoid participation. Send over the BEF in a support role, blockade Germany, take out German colonies and build up a large field army. Entice Italy into participating and try to get Japanese troops for Europe and the Middle East. Coordinate the Battlecruiser Force with the Grand Fleet, emphasising gunnery training; the GF has to be able to prevent the Germans from winning the war in an afternoon. Go for a Dardanelles operation, as it is in line with traditional British oceanic strategy. Force the straits with a strong battlefleet and a better planned landing. This knocks out the Turks, brings Bulgaria onside and shores up Russia. Resist the temptation to commit the Army piecemeal to offensive in France, but use it in a large 1916 offensive aimed at breaking the German lines decisively. Domestically, handle matters in Ireland with greater discretion, and even consider pushing the Home Rule Bill through. |

Avoid fighting Serbia on territory favorable to them. Concentrate on containing Russia first, while maintaining a smaller force against Serbia. Bring Bulgaria into the war early on. Ensure Romanian neutrality or perhaps even entry into the war on our side by promising them Bessarabia. Another goal would be to up the production of all kinds of weapons. In case of Italian entry into the war for the Entente, more decisive naval actions would be required, as well as some better organised offensives a la Caporetto after Italy has been bloodied enough, in order to kick them out of the war. |
