Propaganda posters are some of the most interesting primary sources, particularly those from the world wars.

This one is a fairly simple, direct appeal to Allied unity.

And who could forget your old pal, Ivan? This was actually one of a whole series that included Chinese and Australians, among others.

This has a lot, including some links.

I did once find a whole bunch of great ones, and will try to remember the site.

Spoiler: click to toggle

(Spoilered because it's too big)

Not actually a propaganda poster, but an amusing relic from the war years.

Here are some Eastern European posters.

Russian Civil War

Posted Image

The words on the dogs are the surnames of White Russian leaders - Denikin, Kolchak, Yudenich.

Posted Image

Dedicated to Red cossacks. The horseman on the poster looks a lot like Vasiliy Chapaev. Unfortunately, I don't really understand the text...

Posted Image

A play on the "Uncle Sam wants you!" poster. The text says: "Did YOU apply as a volunteer yet?"

Posted Image

The text says: "From dark to light, from battles to education, from grief to happiness."

Posted Image

The text goes: "Peace and freedom in Sovdepiya", Sovdepiya being Soviet Russia.

Posted Image

"For united Russia!"

Posted Image

Another one inspired by Uncle Sam's finger, this time a White Russian version. The text is based on pre-reform Cyrillic, so I really can't figure out what it means - but going by the Soviet version, I'd say it says something in the manner of "Why aren't you in the Army?"

Later I'll post some WWII posters.
