A twist on everyone's favorite AH topic, a balkanized United States: create a viable timeline in which the area corresponding to modern day Canada is occupied by no fewer than six independent nations. They may be of any size or culture, providing the rationale behind their separate existence is logical.

Indian rump states are allowed, but the main idea is to construct a series of modern, viable nation-states out of British/European settlement.

I can think of at least 5: Newfoundland, independent Quebec, British Columbia (coming from a somewhat isolated British colony without Confederation), Ontario plus bits of Manitoba making up a rump Dominion of Canada and finally the Maritime Colonies joined together in a loose confederation.

To get to 6, one could have some sort of small Meti state in Manitoba.

Would these be viable? Very questionable.

Something in the Hudson Bay area maybe? If its not sold to Canada, something may happen with it.
