Fennella could see the healing hall before her. She was carrying the form of a small boy in her arms as she moved swiftly toward it. She'd been keeping herself closeted away as she worked on her research in quiet solitude. She'd found the boy when she'd gone to fetch water this morning and though she'd tried to help him her specialty was plants..not people. She kicked the door with ehr foot and waited. He wasn't heavy but he was dead weight and he wasn't cooperating as far as staying situated in her arms was concerned. Of course, that could be her fault for the way she was carrying him. She'd never had any children of her own so this was a foreign concept to her. She huffed up a rush of air trying to blow a wayward piece of hair from her face but as always it didn't work. She was feeling a bit out of sorts understandably, but she plastered a calm expression to her face. It wasn't their fault she'd lost a day of fact gathering. She'd have to just adjust her calculations tomorrow and compensate. She made a face at the thought. Skewing figures was something she really hated. She was much more comfortable with her highly disciplined methods of gathering facts.

The Healing dome was connected the main dome by a very short passage. It was readily exessible yet separate from the hub-bub of the Hall and marketplace and the residential areas of Icestorme. Kahlan enjoyed the quiet. Not only was the Healing Hall pristinely clean, with the usual hustle and bustle of various emercencies, in a different wing, people were brought for rest. Behind the Hall stretched a peaceful, quiet garden with fountains and ponds. The Healing Dome was kept cooler than most, not cold, but comfortable for the workers, guests and residences to walk around enjoying the peaceful scenery. Kahlan had been raised in this dome, her mother had been an Assistant Healer and lived in the Dome. Kahlan had gone above and beyond that. She was a full Healer now. She was making rounds when the woman came in with the boy. She hurried over. "What's happened?" she asked urgeantly |

Fennella looked up and saw someone and moved toward her and stood holding the unconscious boy in her arms, "I have no idea," she said as she looked at the healer, "I went to get water and I saw him lying on the ground. I tried to revive him but I had no success so I brought him here." She realized her words probably sounded ridiculous but she ahd a small place in the middle of her frozen reserve where she was doing ehr work where she'd thawed the ground and dug a well. She kept it so with a magical spell she'd purchased and this was the water she used to her own food and cleansing. She used only things from the land in her experiments. She was finally have some success too. Her berries were actually growing in the ice and looked to be producing berries as well. She'd found a means of creating a plant with both genders in one so she could easily pollinate the blooms that formed. She'd not sheltered the plants either. She'd allowed the wind to do what insects did elsewhere and so afar it was working. Time would tell though. "I could not find any injury," she said, "I have no idea what is wrong with him...or where he may have come from. There is no one around my lab for miles and miles."

| Kahlan took the boy and went to an examination room. She surveyed the woman quietly a long moment before efficiently checking the boy's vitals. "It's dangerous for non-platinums to leave the domes. Even more dangerous for non-dragons," she commented. "At least without magical protection," she added. She wished she had the Amber ability to heat up a person slowly. Instead she reatreived several smooth discs of draconite. They varied in size and were warm to the touch. She placed them in various key places on his small frame. "He was lucky you found him," she said quietly. "And you know nothing about him?" she asked again, just to make sure. |

Fennella watched, "No," she said, "I have never seen another soul out where I am conducting my research." She'd been out there a considerable amount of time too...Exactly 497 days to be exact. She had journal pages and notes for every single day too to document both her successes and failures. She'd had plenty of failures but that was necessary to eventual success. She had a very tenacious personality and was in no frame of mind to give up especially now that she was seeing a bit of light at the end of the tunnel. "So he is human?" she asked, "What was he doing wandering alone in the cold?" She asked as a frown furrowed her brow. "I don't actually believe in luck though...he was meant to be found for whatever reason. Hopefully I was not too late happening upon him and was quick enough getting him to aid." |

Kahlan held her hands over the stones. Since she was a Topaz, she was one of the few people that could use these types of stones correctly. They were made especially for Topaz ability. They worked several different ways. If she had earth beneath her feet, she could channel her rejuvinative ability into the stones that then passes to the patient. She rather suspected they were created by a Topaz in the distant past to be negate the negative aspects of their ability. As it was though, she could manipulate the stone on a molecular level, speeding them up to create heat and allow the boy's body temperature to rise naturally. "If he was human, he'd already be dead," she remarked simply to the woman. "I am Kahlan. Kahlan Rockwood. You must be the mad lady trying to grow plants in frozen ground," she said without insult. It was obvious she was merely repeating whispers. Edited by Kahlan, Jan 17 2010, 08:42 PM.

Fennella nodded in agreement to the statement that if he were human he'd already be dead and merely lifted a brow at the other comment neither insulted nor amused. "I am Fennella Greenfield," she said simply, "And I have been seeing some success of late. Perseverance is a powerful thing." She watched the woman with the boy. She could just leave and get back to work but since she'd found the boy she felt responsible for seeing eh was safely back with his family. Whoever they may be. She wasn't going to leave without giving them a stern talking to either. A young boy should not be left to wander unattended ...not here...and really not anywhere. He was a sweet looking child she realized as she looked at him now. Blond hair and rosy cheeks and she'd pried his eyes open before to look at them and seen the brightest blue she'd ever seen. He didn't look to her to be more than about 7 or 8 but something that could be deceiving. "I hope you don't mind if I stay until he is well enough to speak," she said, "I feel as though I should return him where he belongs since I happened upon him. It would only be right." |

| Kahlan nodded. "The stones are warming him. He should wake up. I don't recognize him and his coloring isn't right for a Platinum," she gave a wry smile and held up her arm, drawing attention to the warm tone of her skin. "Or a Topaz," she added, as if that wasn't obvious. "I suppose he could belong to one of the families of the new consuls and their attendents, but I'm no expert," she remarked. Kahlan had been born after Ambisula had been cut off from the rest of the planet. Though she's traveled all over the islands making up her homeland, she knew next to nothing about the traits of dragons beyond their little nation. |

Fennella nodded. "He has the appearance of an amethyst but I know that appearances can sometimes be deceiving." She could very well imagine this was a half breed...though she'd never say as much. She knew that in some circles that was certain death or at best being ostracized forever. She watched and waited. She was if nothing else extremely patient. She looked up at the healer, "Perhaps once he wakens he can give us some insight," she said sounding a bit more than a little hopeful. The young boy stirred a bit later and let out a slight groan. His head hurt and his fingers and toes felt like they were on fire. His eyes opened and he looked around. he didn't recognize anything nor the two women. "My feet hurt...and my head and my fingers..." She looked from on to the other, "Where am I?" |

| Kahlan shrugged. "I suppose he could be a hybrid. I would guess, though, since was able to withstand the cold as long as he did, he was used to cold. Most likely Sapphire, given his coloring," she said almost absently. She withdrew her thread of power from the rocks momentarily as the boy awakened. She gave him a warm smile. "You are in the Healing Hall of Icestorme, child," she told him in a soothing voice. "You're regaining feeling in frostbitten areas. You nearly froze to death. Why were you roaming around outside the domes without protection?" she asked, wondering if perhaps he'd seen Platinum children running around out there half naked as they were wont to do because they could. |
