Hi
ok im having a tantrum now , I can understand city people with a little bit of land getting sheep and having dog running free , yet again the dog that killed Dots mum got another sheep yesterday making his kill total 3 full grown sheep and 3 lambs. and to top it off they are putting off taking this dog to the vet or pound to have him put to sleep ,

My biggest worry is that if this dog is rehomed with a cat how long do you think that cat would live ( me not long at all ) what if a child goes to help its pet cat and the dog hurts a child. I'm so angry with this whole thing I would have killed the dog my self yesterday.

then Dots owner wanted to send her to the local wild life park as they have a petting zoo, with out even asking me what i wanted , ok so now he knows Dot is staying with me and should not suffer again she already lost 1 mum it's not far to lose me for no reason

I needed to get it of my chest , any one got any ideas how to make this not so much of a problem.

Nat it is so scary, I am a complete mush bucket about dogs and other pets, having said that once a dog kills, you are in a whole new area. If you feel the dog can be rehabilitated fine, but you must NEVER trust it or allow it the opportunity to prove you wrong. That dog should be muzzled when it is out or near others, humanely. I am actually seeing this type of situation myself, I think I mentioned before my neice who foolished got a dog, cattle/heeler supposed, from a pet store, obviously puppy mill dog, my other neice got the sibling. They both were sick and filled with fleas, eye/ear infections, parasites, then as they grew to about one year, the one attacked it sibling without provocation and almost killed it, would have if 4 adults had not intervened and been hurt in the process. My niece lives in burbs with some land, it is constantly killing, rabbits, mice, racoons, squirrels etc. Then it attacked my other neices small dog and again seriously injured it and my neices father who intervened, he literally had to beat this dog on the head to break the death grib. I was talking to her two nights ago, because she loves this dog, she also has a jack russell and I fear one day when they are alone in the house this dog will react and kill the jack russell, or on one of their daily walks and trips to river, where it is off leash it will kill a dog or god forbid a small child, her options, put it down, or give it to her future father in law on his farm, which she would except his farm is separated into two parts, and a extremely busy road runs between, used alot by large trucks, she and her father in law believe the dog would get hit by a truck. I am still trying to convince her to put muzzle on. I saw the dog two nights ago and hes normally lovely, but you have to be realistic he is a loaded gun. I would be a nervous wreck. So just needed to vent this has really been on my mind. So Nat didn't help but I sure can appreciate how furious you must be, when we take pets on, it comes with responsibility, to care and love and respect them and the others they come in contact with. People do not seem to get that. Took my lovely robbie, (dog) to vet yesterday, he will be sixteen years old in a few weeks, vet said hes doing great. Has some old age issues and his cancer in his snout has remained the same for almost fours years, symtom free, he takes metacam daily. I was so happy when I left there. I feel so honoured to still have him, he was been attacked three times in his life by loose dogs, so I know the anger, I thought the last time I was capable of killing the other dog, (god forbid the thought), but when you are saving your own dog from another aggressive dog you go into mother mode. It was a doberman and the owner a young guy did aboslutely nothing, didn't even call it off. Frankly If I had not been so concerned about my dog, I think I would have been up on assault charges on this young punk. My scottie broke his leather collar and crawled under a car to escape, thats what saved his life. So answer, its hard if owners are irresponsible, what about telling him he will be reported to have a viscious dog, would that not make him liable if another attack occurs legally. Woops wrote a novel. sorry

See you know what i mean , If it was my dog it would be dead already, after he killed the first lamb , plain and simple. And yes he is legally responsable if this dog gets out and kills again , under our laws if this dog enters the neighbours yard and kills his sheep the dog can be shot on site and the cost of the aminal or vet is to be paid by the owner of the dog. Dont get me wrong I have dags and i love them to bits but if they ever killed an animal or even look like they would bite a child , I would have them put to sleep , may be i look at live different to other people but when I was 4 years old our family pet dog turned on me as a result I had 40 stitches in my head and eye . My Pop being a farmer shot the dog , he was never given the chance to hurt any one again

Wow, thats ugly. I am an animal lover of all kinds. But I too had ugly thoughts of killing a dog when it attacked one of mine. Lucky for me and it, that my younger dog trooper jumped in to defend the older dog turbo. I broke upf the fight and when the owner showed up whistling for his dog and asking me to let it go. I yelled to him, come and get ur f'n dog. Then when he got to me, I told him, if I ever see that again, I will kill the dog with my bare hands! I think the guy was horrified. He didnt apologize, he just hooked up the dog and left. After that, any time he saw us in the distance, he just left the area immediately. That dog is now dead and he has another one that is even worse!

Can u not call the spca or animal control and just have the dog picked up?

I would have to be prevoked to harm an animal, but I can harm to stupid owners much easier. I could tell u stories, but my fingers would cramp.

I feel bad for the dog in the wrong hands. Too bad. They should at least have a muzzle order. Or it should be rehomed.

I still believe it is a learned behavior and that in the right hands and with guidence and training, he can be rehabbed. He needs Ceasar Milan. You can train dogs to do or not do anything.

I guess it all goes back to irresponsible owners. This dog had not been trained properly and as important was not contained properly. So sad for the dog and all the small animals in its path.
