I'm sorry, but the Xbox/PS2 versions have been greatly romanticized, imo. In 04, you couldn't play defense. In 05 you couldn't catch a pass. 06 was good, but far from perfect. 07 for the Xbox was bad. I took it back and stuck with 06.

Are the next gen games disappointing? Yes. But I still think that they are better overall than the old gen, imo, though they are not as good as compared to other games.
I did play NCAA 08 and Madden 08 PS2 instead of the PS3 versions because they felt better to me and quite a few others over on OS.
I was able to play both games back to back due to my trusty 60gig unit.

I really do think that the next gen games are disappointing for the fact that they are bug riddled messes when they ship. And to fix them won't happen since the patches take to long to get out and approved.

"They are not as good compared to other games." Is that some 2k love I feel? :)
God no. I thought NFL 2k5 was the most overrated football game in the history of the planet. I bought it for $20, and once Madden 2005 came out, 2k5 never left its case again.

No I meant compared to the other great games on the 360. Call of Duty, Bioshock, Fallout, Oblivion, Mass Effect, Ultimate Alliance, etc. There's been some great games for the 360 (and PS3), and they've made huge strides over last gen games. While I feel like current gen sports games have made strides over last gen, it's not as big of strides as games of other genres.

I played 08 on the Xbox 360, and liked it a lot. It was actually the first year that the NCAA game got more playtime than Madden. But that was on the 360, and the 360 has been better off for cross-platform sports games.

As much as 2k did some things right it also did some things wrong. By no means was it the messiah of football games.

I feel like the NHL series has a made a rather large jump over the PS2.

Most of the sports games kept their guts from the PS2/Xbox versions where as the games you listed above created those games from the ground up. New tech. New engines. Etc.

Madden, no matter how much they say has been rebuilt - outside of the running game doesn't feel any different. 2k is guilty of having the same basketball engine since the Dreamcast.

I'm to the point now that I like the XBLA and PSN games more so than the big game releases.

The pass rush is supposed to be better Jim but still very disappointing to most people. Who knows how the sliders will work. I'm not changing my stance on the game. When the sliders get patched I will rent it and make up my own mind. Maybe the Madden demo will be out soon after although I HATE 2 minute quarters.

I think a lot of positive reviews are coming from the online community since it appears the default settings are a lot better this year. That helps online guys. But I don't compare games on default settings since I usually tweak the game so much. I want to see how a tweaked NCAA 10 will play. If I can fix the pass rush, get the cpu to run the ball well and adjust to the camera I may be very happy. But Rhombic and Fluff E Bunny still hate the camera and they have the game on NCAA Strategies. There is no assurance that the sliders will work well either. They seemed to think they worked last year. Time will tell.

Some concern over robo QB on Heisman but people seem to be very happy with the completion percentages on AA. I still don't see people being alarmed over continuous reports of the cpu rushing for 3 yards or less per rush attempt.

Potential problem with fatigue. If your starting RB gets subbed in the second half it appear they never come back in and can't be brought back manually. Will have to see if others are seeing this too. This is a huge glitch if true. A couple guys have reported.

Apparently in cold weather, every players wears long sleeves that are grey - no team specific colours. Will be annoying for cold weather teams - especially the Big 10.

The fade routes and over the shoulder catches were nice in the demo and people like them in the game.

Hellisan is the first one saying he's not liking the game so far on OS. I've always liked his thoughts on the game in the past. I'm not sure if he posts much at MM anymore. (Edit: Madden Mania closed shop! No more MM! Just OS).
