Week 10 Miami (6-2) @ Virginia 5-3

Virginia is actually pretty good in this game. The first half was ugly as I lost a fumble and threw 3 INTs! You'd think I would be getting killed but I returned two kickoffs for TDs in this game. I also gave up a kickoff return for TD. Peerman rushed for 137 yards against me including this long 68 yard TD run.

That made the game 20-7 but I also returned the next kick for a TD to cut it to 20-13. Virginia did not really capitalize on all my errors. They were 2-11 on third down and went for it on 4th down instead of kick a 35 yarder once. I stopped them and that would turn out to be big.

I hit a nice play action pass where the WR made a nice play.

But I trailed in the 4th quarter 29-27. They were milking the clock and I managed to force a field goal but there was only a little over a minute left and I had no timeouts. I was down 32-27 now. I made a few nice medium plays in the passing game. Then as they were concerned with the outside, this play happened with 42 seconds left during my no huddle.

I missed the 2 point convert but led 33-32 with 32 seconds left. Virginia had two time outs left and got to midfield but the hail mary to the endzone fell incomplete. Miami wins 33-32!

I got a 4* MLB to commit afterwards as well. Nice! Have a bye this week so I will be hitting the recruiting trail!

Virginia Tech (5-4) @ Miami (7-2)

In my final home game of they year and one recruit waiting to watch a rivalry game, the Hurricanes didn't get out to a good start. Jacory Harris threw two INTs in the first half and struggled. One was in the red zone and the other led to this VT TD play.

Coach Rudy never thought about benching Harris though as backup Robert Marve got hurt last week and is out another three weeks. Harris has 19 INTs on the season now! (I will try to have more team stat numbers later). Overall, the 'Canes were down 7-6 heading into halftime.

After the half it was all Miami. Harris rebounded nicely with a deep ball down the sideline setting up a TD run.

Harris finished 13-21 for 168 yards on the day, 0 TD and 2 INTs. Miami was actually leading 26-7 before VT punched in a meaningless score with 18 seconds left. Miami wins 26-14 and is now 8-2 but still unranked by the coaches!

Recruiting
The one recruit I had was #2 on my list in a tight battle but I got two kids to commit after the rivalry win and one more during the bye week (I may be confused here). So far I've got 5 recruits committed in good spots. I've got a CB, MLB, TE, OLB and a 5* Athlete that may be a QB. I'll have to double check this. I don't think I've gotten a tackle to commit and it doesn't look like I'll get a good one either. I lost out on the only center I wanted so I may have to slide a guard over next year to provide depth. But my biggest concerns next year were CB, ILB and TE and I think I will have addressed the youth I needed. The TE that just committed had Bama as #1 but chose me after the VT game. He is a JUCO but I've got a 4* athlete close to signing with me that I like as a potential TE. No more home games but I think I've got some nice young secondary kids still really interested. A good SS is close to signing with me and I do need some depth and a future starter in two years.

Going off the top of my head on team stats before the VT game, my total offense was ranked around #21 in the country due to my return game. But my rushing and passing numbers were much lower. My defense was ranked #21 against the pass and #13 against the run I believe. But the worst number of all was turnover margin as I was -11 and ranked #111 in the country. It's amazing I'm 8-2. The only bad game I played was against FSU when I got destroyed 48-10. Other than that I've pulled out some nice close games - the Virginia one being a near miracle.

Miami (8-2) @ Georgia Tech (7-3)

Big game for the hurricanes but the offense struggled badly in this game. Jacoby Harris' struggles continued as he threw 3 INTs in this game, all in the first half. One was returned directly for a TD while the other two cost the Hurricanes as well. The offense as a whole hasn't done well as the OL hasn't opened holes in the running game either. The defense was good in the first half as GT was without All American Jonathon Dwyer (doubtful with cracked fibula) but they still had a couple breakdowns here and there. Here was a blown coverage in the first half.

That led to more points and Miami only had 3 points at the half. In fact, it was 20-3 after 3 quarters when a whole new game broke out. A couple long TD runs by the cpu (here is one below) led to an offensive explosion.

Miami tried to respond, getting within 10 in the 4th quarter only to miss a second FG that really hurt. After that, the game was pretty much over. I did get a nice post pass for a TD at the end but still lost 37-24 as both teams combined to score 38 points in the final quarter on some big plays and lousy tackling.

I didn't feel like loading the INT return against me. This loss drops me to 8-3 and boost GT to 8-3. I did get a SS to committ though. I'm missing out on the OL though and I hope to land one or two OLBs as well. I will have the depth next year to hopefully switch to the 3-4 or maybe use the multiple d formation. My final game is against NC State on the road and isn't a gimmie.
