The front 7 on this team is fantastic!

LE Bailey 95
RE Robinson 93
NT Fortson 97
LOLB Spence 97 (Impact)
ILB Brown 93 (Impact)
ILB Rogers 84 (comes out in nickel and dime)
ROLB Futch 91

Pretty tough to run on me!

#12 5-0 Florida State @ #3 5-0 Miami

This was a great game that unfortunately saw the Hurricanes lose their first game of the year 24-20 and possibly ruin their national championship dreams. They were down 14-3 when an FSU receiver bobbled a pass into the arms of a Miami defender.

This allowed the Miami offense to get untracked. Miami was down 17-10 at the half but Graig Cooper got it going in the second half and ripped off a 30 yard TD run to tie the game at 17-17. Miami actually took the lead at 20-17 but with just under three minutes in the game, Miami blitzed and FSU burned them for a TD.

Miami got the ball back but on fourth down, Travis Benjamin caught a short pass that wasn't thrown quite hard enough and he fell just short of the first down marker. TB really struggled this game. Not only did he not break any returns (5 punt returns for only 17 yards) but he fumbled a punt at the 20 yard line which resulted in a FG. He also had 2 drops on the day. Miami falls to #10 now.

Miami Stats
J.Harris 21-31 67%, 171 yards, 1 TD 1 INT, 3 sacks, some nice scrambles too
G.Cooper 29-122, 4.2 ypc, 1 TD
A.Bailey had two nice sacks for the defense

FSU Stats
Richardson 12-26, 46%, 154 yards, 2 TD, 2 INT, 4 sacks
J.Rogers 22-94 yards, 4.2 ypc

I had a bunch of recruits at the game too - B visit for all of them. Two tough games next as well.

I know. Both of us were rated 96 overall. Plus I'm a 94 on offense - they were a 94 on defense. I'm a 99 on defense and they were 99 on offense. A near perfect matchup and a great game at 24-20, except I lost.

#10 Miami (5-1) at Georgia Tech (4-2)

Miami escapes Bobby Dodd stadium behind the legs of Cooper! Miami beat Georgia Tech 24-21 in a close game that tightened up down the stretch. The first half was all offense as both teams ran the ball well and moved up and down the field. Miami held on to a 17-14 lead at the half but Georgia Tech surprised the Canes defense with some power running and the triple option they love to run. The second half got more defensive as nobody scored in the third quarter. Graig Cooper missed a good part of the second half with an injury but came back with some big runs in the 4th. The only turnover of the day was a fumbled option by Nesbitt inside his own 20 yard line that led to the winning TD for the Canes.

Here is one of a few nice runs by Cooper. Despite Cooper having 95 speed, the pursuit angles weren't as horrible as everyone likes to rag on NCAA 09 for.

The fumbled option and ensuing TD put Miami up 24-14 but GT score a TD with just over two minutes left to get to 24-21. I only rushed three in a Cover 3 scheme - bad idea.

But Cooper broke free for a long run to ice the game late.

Miami Stats
J.Harris 16-25, 143 yards, 0 TD, 0 INT, 0 sacks, 4 carries for 19 yards
G.Cooper 27-180 yards, 2 TD
L.Chambers 9-32 yards (3rd string back since Miller got hurt for the game and he had to play when Cooper got hurt)
L.Miller 4-9, 1 TD

GT Stats
J.Nesbitt 9-15, 121 yards, 1 TD, 0 INT, 1 sack
J.Dwyer 11-55, 1 TD (didn't give him the ball enough but he also got hurt briefly along with Nesbitt)

Overall, the team rushing stats showed Miami rushed for 240 yards and GT rushed for 145 yards against my very strong rush defense.
