End of Year News USC wins the National Championship by defeating Penn State 44-21. I finished #13 in the coaches poll and #9 in the media poll. I'm actually ranked #7 going in to next season. I had a bunch of All Americans on the first team. CB Harris, FS Nicolas, P Bosher and Returner Travis Benjamin. Second Team AA: MLB A.Brown Freshman AA: MLB A.Brown, CB B.Harris (also a first team AA), SS R.Buchanon, Returner L.Byrd I was offered a three year extension and took it. The only other school offering was Michigan who finished 7-6. Guess they aren't too happy with Rich Rod! Three players left early (I never stop them as I like the challenge): CB D. Van Dyke (88), FS J. Nicolas (88) and P M.Bosher (87). I didn't realize how much it would hurt to lose Dyke at CB. Combined that with two CBs graduating and I have one good CB and four freshman! I lost my top two TEs to graduation (89 and 88) and now have nobody higher than 75 before training. I will probably switch to less two TE sets next year. My recruiting class did rank #1. I got two 5*, ten 4*, six 3* and two 4* players. My one 5* tackle came in as an 87! Holy crap! My LB corp looks young but deep and good. My DL looks really good as does my safeties. I'm really concerned about my CBs. On Offense my tackles are good and will be set for the future. My interior OL is good but I will really need to grab at least two good players (hopefully a center and guard) for the future. My TEs stink right now but an incoming receiving TE has 86 speed and is 75 overall! The 5* QB has a pretty good arm and comes in rated at an 82. I'm almost tempted to start him day one. I'm part way through my offseason and the training did help some areas but my #2 CB is still around 78 or 79. I'm not sure my secondary is good enough for a title run. |

I think I'm going to switch to the SoMiss playbook. UConn's and PSU's are also options as they have more FB formations than the Miami playbook. |

Well I'm recruiting some DEs and Guards pretty hard. Those are my biggest needs. My WR corp is pretty deep so I'm only recruiting one 4* kid and I'm only going after one 5* RB. No QBs! I'm deep and want to hold off a year there. I scheduled my ooc easier than last year. I play at unranked Notre Dame (but found out they are A+ and 99 afterwards!), host #19 Ole Miss (B+) and #4 PSU (A) and play Arkansas (B+) on the road at the end of the year. I'm an A team and the ACC looks tough. FSU, NC, and GT are all A teams. VT is A-. My first week was a bye and I got two 4* CBs to commit week 1! Very nice! Edited by Rudy, Aug 26 2009, 05:41 AM.

Week 1 - #7 Miami (0-0) at Notre Dame (0-0) Miami beats Golden Domers to start the year! The Hurricanes beat Notre Dame 33-14. This game was close in the first half as the teams traded leads but Travis Benjamin had another big day. He took a kickoff back for a TD to grab a 10-7 lead after a long TD run by Notre Dame's Hughes. He also took a flanker screen the distance for another score. The score was 20-14 at the half with the young CBs struggling a little but the defense didn't allow a point in the second half. Jacory Harris played well and showed he is ready to lead this team to a potential National Championship. Miami Stats J.Harris 12-16, 75%, 221 yards, 2 TD, 0 INT, 3 sacks G.Cooper 31-116, 3.7 ypc 0 TD L.Miller 6-21, 35 yards T.Benjamin 4-139 rec yards and 1 TD plus a kickoff return TD that was 106 yards! Notre Dame J.Clausen 15-26, 57%, 144 yards, 0 TD, 2 INT and 2 sacks R.Hughes 16-128, 8.0 ypc, 1 TD (71 yard run) M.Floyd had 3 drops for their recievers EASW was down so I couldn't load a couple video clips. I'll try tonight. And I'm not using SoMiss's playbook anymore. The notes on their formations was wrong - they have too many shotgun formations for my liking. Switching to PSU's. Update: Here is a corner TD pass and the TD on the flanker screen (some busted tackles here - my settings have that on both sides). Edited by Rudy, Aug 26 2009, 08:18 PM.

I'm still running the Multiple Defense. I really want to switch full time to the 3-4 but my personel just isn't strong enough yet. I've got a couple good ILBs and unfortunately I'm not redshirting one of them just because I need him for depth. I have a decent group of DTs so I still show some 4-3 looks from time to time. Next year will be 3-4 all the way but I will need to find a big bodied NT soon. My recruits have been on the smaller side so far. |
