#19 Miami 10-2 vs. #2 Clemson 12-0 The Miami Hurricanes came in as underdogs but left as ACC Champions. The Hurricanes defeated the Clemson Tigers 27-18 in the pouring rain. The heavy rain didn't stop the Hurricanes Special Teams as they got two kick returns for TD including one on Miami's first possession. A bend but don't break defense forced Clemson to kick 4 field goals and also picked off one pass. Although the offensive statistics favoured Clemson, Miami led virtually the entire game. Only a late 4th quarter long catch and run for TD gave the Tigers a brief hope. But the failed two point conversion with two minutes to go essentially dashed any hopes. Here is the opening kickoff return for Miami: Senior linebacker Colin McCarthy was turned into a 3-4 ILB in 3-4 sets only but made a great interception and contributed 3 tackles to the game as well. Jacory Harris barely threw the ball as he only threw 7 passes although two were interceptions. But both picks were on deep throws and one was a hail mary at the end of the half so the coaching staff wasn't bothered by this at all. I did see the cpu QB Willy Korn throw the ball away on a rollout! James earned some hard yards in this game and was more effective than the stats showed. The Miami run defense was great. Miami Stats J.Harris 5-7 71%, 65 yards, 0 TD, 2 INT, 1 sack J.James 33-70, 1 TD, longest rush was 8 yards L.Miller 4-15 Clemson Stats W.Korn 20-29 68%, 279 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT, 3 sacks CJ Spiller 16-31 J. Ford 6-129 yards, 1 TD (70 yard catch and run) |

Postseason Notes The #15 Hurricanes will be in the Orange Bowl on January 3rd to face #3 West Virginia who got left out of the title game at 12-0. I achieved two coaching goals and as long as I stay in the Top 25 I will achieve all three. I have 100% approval right now. USC and Penn State will play in the title game. Both PSU and Utah went 12-0 as well but won't be playing for the title. CJ Spiller won the Heisman and had 1463 rush yards and 16 TD. Sanchez finished #2. WVU is ranked #1 in the country in both rush offense and rush defense. |

A side note on the ACC title game - that was the first time I ever changed my uniform before the start of the game. I chose green instead of orange. I see that trend continuing. |

#15 Miami 10-2 vs. #3 West Virginia 12-0 in the BCS Orange Bowl National Spanking! Miami Whips West Virginia in 2009 Orange Bowl! (Actual ESPN Headline). This game was never in doubt as Miami smoked WVU 63-14! Travis Benjamin was unbelievable on returns as he brought back a punt return for a TD, a kick return for a TD and almost another. He had 354 yards on kick returns alone in this game. Tons of big plays for Miami who absolutely destroyed West Virginia. WVU couldn't run, couldn't stop the run and was useless on special teams. The Mountaineers defense played their 3-3-5 and got pounded. It tried to blitz and was beat badly on a couple flanker screens. What could go wrong did. The only good things were two picks in the 2nd quarter including a pick 6 to cut the Miami lead to 14 but it didn't matter. It was 35-14 at the half and many starters were pulled halfway through the 3rd quarter. Jarrett Brown did set a new WVU record for 37 TD passes on the year. This game was played in the rain but it didn't slow down the speedy All-American Travis Benjamin who was the player of the game. WVU was ranked 92 overall, 96 on offense and 89 on defense. Miami was ranked 94 overall, 92 on offense and 99 on defense. Here is one punt return that didn't go all the way. Benjamin hadn't returned a punt for a TD all year - just a few kickoffs. 99 speed! James had a good day too and here was a long run. Shoddy tackling by WVU all day. Big East my ass! More like Big Least! Miami Stats J.Harris 5-9, 135 yards, 2 TD, 2 INT (1 pick 6), 1 sack J.James 18-130, 7.2 ypc, 3 TD L.Miller 28-112, 4.0 ypc, 2 TD WVU Stats J.Brown 14-25, 56%, 116 yards, 1 TD, 2 INT, 0 sacks, 7 carries for -2 yards N.Devine 11-24, 0 TD Total Offense was 383 to 138 for Miami. Total Yards was 737 to 430 for Miami. Miami punted once. WVU 7 times. Miami was 5 for 9 on third down. WVU was 1 for 10. |
