#20 Miami (7-1) @ North Carolina (2-5)

Don't let the record fool you. North Carolina is a good squad that is rated 89 overall. They gave me trouble in the first half. My defense didn't tackle well and on this play, three broken tackles lead to a long TD run for NC.

Some bad news early in the game though. Graig Cooper fractured his forearm and will be out for 10 weeks. That basically ends the season for him. Javarris James stepped up and played well. The depth falls off quickly after him as Lamar Thomas is a nice freshman but not as good as Cooper. Jacory Harris was questionable and sat out the game as Cannon Smith has played well. A QB controversy perhaps?

NC's defense was tough but James got a fairly easy TD run here.

The score was all tied at 17 at the half. But the second half was all Hurricanes as the defense took over. The Tarheels couldn't weather the storm as the Canes picked off two passes and shut them out. Miami pounded the ball with James and won 30-17.

Ranking
Despite being 8-1, Miami only moves up to #19. But of the 18 teams in front of them, only two have two losses. There are a ton of undefeated and one loss teams. OSU lost so USC is now #1. Clemson (in the ACC) is #2 at 7-0 and I will face them in the ACC Championship as long as I win one of my next two conference games. I have VT next and also NC State.

Recruiting
I got three recruits after this game. A 5* QB, a 4* MLB and a 4* TE. Things are looking good everywhere except the interior OL. If I strike out on this 4* guard (currently a close #2 to OSU), I will be really weak in the future. So far I have the #1 class with 5 recruits now.

Miami Game Stats
C.Smith 21-26 212 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT, 3 sacks
J.James 31-110, 3.5 ypc, 2 TD, 38 yd TD run
G.Cooper 3 - (-1), out for season (10 weeks)

NC
B.Kenner 14-21, 118 yards, 0 TD, 2 INT, 3 sacks
S.Draughn 13-128, 9.8 ypc, 2 TD, 69L TD run

VT is next and good.

8-1 #19 Miami @ 5-3 Virginia Tech

This is one of many rivalry games Miami can play. VT is an 89 overall squad. I'm still around a 92 or 93 and Jacory Harris came back to play today despite nursing a sore groin still (probable).

The Hurricanes were very methodical in this game as they chose to pound it out on the ground and Javarris James was happy to carry the rock. The Canes got no big plays in the passing game but were able to take a 16-10 lead into halftime based on James getting 21 carries for 120 yards in the first half alone! VT's only TD in the first half was on a 41 yard TD run where I completely blew a tackle. That was all on me as the defense was stuffing them pretty good all day.

VT got the ball to start the second half but this interception quickly made it 23-10.

VT mounted a good drive and scored to make it 23-17. But after a punt pinned them deep, the Canes Sean Spence got the only sack on the day that also gave them a safety and 25-17 lead.

I was able to hold them off and also recovered a fumble near the end that I couldn't believe they didn't challenge. Final score, Miami 28, VT 17!

I have to load one run for James who ended up carrying the ball 39 times!

Miami Stats
J.Harris 15-22, 118 yards, 0 TD, 0 INT, 0 sacks
J.James 29-162, 1 TD (a lot of tough 4th quarter carries)

VT Stats
Note that Tyrod Taylor was hurt at QB.
J.Berger 13-20, 131 yards, 0 TD, 1 INT, 1 sack (INT was pick six, sack was a safety)
J.Cheeseman 17-59, 1 TD
D.Evans 2-41, (41 yard TD)

The Canes move to #16 after the win but there are still nine undefeated teams. I have a BYE next week and then NC State at home. No recruits committed but OSU lost again and I moved to #1 on the 4* guard and have a soft commit. But myself, OSU and Wisconsin are all maxed out on the interest meter for this kid from Ohio.

The bye week was full of bad news for the Canes. My top two recruits took visits elsewhere and signed with those schools! I worked so hard to move up and be #1 for that guard out of Ohio and he surprised me by picking Penn State! PSU is undefeated and the visit must have sold him. Less damaging but still crappy was losing a 4* DE to Alabama and I had been #1 for awhile. Don't know why he signed so quick.

The top FS on my board is now #2 and dropped me to #2 while WVU is now tops and at full interest! He's got low awareness and high upside. I don't want to lose him but he wouldn't play for a couple years anyways.

The recruiting wars are heating up and my last two games are at home and I have some kids in for visits. Hope to bag some more good prospects without losing any of my top targets.

7-1, that's great!

But ranked only 20.... baaah.... sounds like the real polls to me!

I'm 9-1 now and ranked #14! But Georgia lost for a second time and is now #15. I play them in my last game. I do get a shot at #2 Clemson in the ACC Championship. That game is already locked up as both myself and Clemson are way up in our divisions. At worst I got 7-1 if I lose at home to NC State.
